A Little Chaos

Watched this at Islington Vue on 31 March cinema had 90% occupancy. Film was ok loved the costumes.
On my next trip to France will try to visit the Palace and Gardens

I enjoyed this in places though there was a little dragging on the way to the end. Sound performances along the way and Alan Rickman has a marvellous voice though I'm glad he lost the wig from time to time. With all the build up I couldn't wait to see the end product however,

all we got was a bunch of green hedges in an amphitheatre and an inventive fountain. Where was that beautiful four seasons rose!!! On the cutting floor I suspect...

I wasn't sure what to expect from this film but being a fan of period dramas I was sure I would enjoy it and I did. Liked the storyline and thought Kate Winslet came across very well and Alan Rickmans voice can keep me happy for hours. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but its a 7/10 from me.

This was so slow and unexciting that it sent me to sleep. I dozed for about 30 minutes but was immediately able to pick up the story with no difficulty whatsoever (which says a lot about the film really). The gardens looked pretty and Rickman almost stole the show but the film overall was rather dull. 4/10.

A gentle film with great acting. a small story, totally predictable but enjoyable to watch just don't expect too much! ;-)

We enjoyed this too. Not too demanding and we thought the performances were good.

Gentle and predictable but then not an awful lot actually happened. A bit of a garden was built. That was it really. Oh and a little insight into a very short period in the lives of those in the French king's court. As for the garden - when it was finished it looked rather pathetic. I was expecting something stunning. Instead it looked like something that could have been cobbled together for a garden show. I'm guessing the film's budget didn't stretch to amazing.
Amused to see Katie Wincyette reprising her Titanic role when she got a little soggy.
Alan Rickman will always be The Sheriff of Nottingham no matter how French or kingy he makes himself look.
Splendid to look at. Shame there wasn't more meat to any story.

Best but by far was the very beginning where the wee prince "stinked his linen". Oops. Haha.

slow start but pretty plus a decent lead performance.

They made us wait 40 minutes for the film at Greenwich Picturehouse! To be fair, they offered free drinks after 20. Lovely to see hottips and rawsalsa who surely thinks being on time is overrated now, LOL. I wished I had a book on me!

Pretty but inconsequential. Style over substance. It told me nothing about the time apart from maybe the fact that the male fashion at the time made them all look like idiots. Pretty boy Schoenarts is allowed to make Kate Winslet blush. Yawn. Nothing against anyone else's performance but I guess we can all agree that Stanley Tucci as the flamboyant and secretly (or not so secretly?) gay brother of the king totally stole the show. But then, I would p*y to watch him read the phone book.

As an inside, while none of the actors were, as far as I know, actually French, the German Princess Palatine was indeed played by a German actress with an authentic accent! Hurray for the small things.

i see that the word 'gentle' has been used and that seems very apt.

I enjoyed some scenes but i have to agree it was a bit style over substance as beate said. i liked the peek into courtly life & clothes of loius XIV. a light bit of fun along the lines of the BBC's musketeers.

But I thought 'checkov's wheel' within mins when we kept viewing shots of the cariages from the underneath which was in keeping with underbaked feeling of the darker themes shown.

on balance I liked it. probably would watch it again on tv as it had some beautifully scenic views and alan rickman.
