I couldn't find a thread, apologies if there is one.
Just seen this tonight, huge thanks to suel3288 for the tickets, and loved it. I wasn't sure about it from trailers etc, but it's funny, thrilling, inventive and Paul Rudd does a great job following Chris Pratt as a humorous action hero. 9/10

Re: Ant Man
I was embargoed until tonight 10pm! Presumably until after the premiere tonight.
I went to the "official" multimedia screening on Monday at Leicester Square Odeon - along with hundreds of invited SFF members, who were let in after waiting an hour and half, after guests with glossy tickets were let in first. We sneaked upstairs to where the VIP sat and joined the queue for the green screen. Paul Rudd and the director introduced the film.
A bit slow with the back story, but once the action starts, wow, it's amazing. Funny script, heartwarming and incredible CGI. Tiny ants scenes are brilliant and hilarious. Stay for two after credit scenes, one mid-credit and one right at the end which are brilliant! Lovely to see Evangeline Lilly from Lost and Hobbit, playing Michael Douglas' daughter. And also Paul Rudd as Ant-Man - loved him as Pheobe's boyfriend in Friends, who brings his humour here. 8/10
In the dark, I thought the black mark was dirt on the glossy ticket, until I looked closer in the light....

Just watched this, overall i found it another decent offering by Marvel. I do enjoy watching Corey Stoll since House of Cards and glad his career is taking off.

Re: Ant Man
Finally reaching cinemas after a much publicised troubled production that left it stigmatised as the film Edgar Wright almost got to make, Ant-Man effortlessly shrugs off any negative thoughts to emerge as one of the most purely enjoyable films of the summer.
A standard heist style plot is enlivened by a quirky comic sensibility that puts charming comedy actor Paul Rudd front and centre. His affable persona goes a long way to help sell even the dafter aspects of this particular superhero. Strong support too from Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll. Though it's Michael Pena who steals all the big laughs as Rudd's over-enthusiastic best friend.
Where the film really delights though is in its set pieces that manage to feel both small and epic at the same time. The pleasure and inventiveness of seeing the human world from an ant's eye view and then watching that world play host to these miniature battles is amusingly undercut by how comical these tiny fights look to human eyes. Highlights include an impressive use of an architects scale model of a building and, later on, a Thomas the Tank Engine train set.
Yes there are moments where the film needs to tie itself into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe but they're not quite as jarring as they could have been. A mid-credits and post-credits scene hint at further developments too.
Of course it's tempting to wonder what an Edgar Wright Ant-Man would have been like but Peyton Reed has delivered an immensely likeable and fun film that keeps such thoughts from your mind for its running time. And any film that uses The Cure's Plainsong for comic effect has got to be worth your time.

Re: Ant Man
Saw this tonight with OH in 3D as I had vouchers to use up. Cinema not overly full but populated with idiots.
Had high hopes but was mostly bored. Why do we have to forgive Ant Man being a criminal because he loves his daughter? His sidekick was irritating, Michael Douglas looked a hundred years old and I mistook Evangeline Lilly for Rachel McAdams. The stupid hairdo didn't help. The villain was lame too, the plot didn't make any sense and the fight scenes weren't interesting. And I hate ants. Horrible crawlers. Plus, the cast list says that Hayley Atwell was in it and I can't remember seeing her at all. A very long two hours.

She appeared right at the beginning with aged make up in a flashback scene with a young Michael Douglas.Beate wrote:Plus, the cast list says that Hayley Atwell was in it and I can't remember seeing her at all.

Re: Ant Man
Screening I went to over the weekend wasn't too full, probably because this film has more or less run its course.
As for the film, thought this was quite good. Similar to Guardians of the Galaxy in that there was a lot of humour, interesting characters/side-kicks, catchy dialogue.
The action sequences were great, especially in 3D, and although it was a bit creepy with the ants, I thought it was great, seeing how the various species of ants act (e.g. Fire ants, Bullet ants, etc.). Paul Rudd was engaging as the lead and it was interesting seeing Corey Stoll as the villain. The screening flew by and didn't feel the 2 hours. One of the better films I've seen this year!

Re: Ant Man
I got around to seeing this at last at the weekend using nectar and I loved it, it lived up to my expectations. I thought the special effects were very good (I only saw in 2D) and found it funny as well. I loved how they made Michael Douglas look like he was in the 80's. I would definitely recommend 8.5/10
