Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
It just seems a great pity that what I consider to be the most useful feature of this entire forum - to be told quickly about free films and so have a fighting chance of picking up tickets before they are all gobbled up - no longer appears to work as it is intended.
I'm afraid it makes the entire forum of much less value to me, and means that I just won't engage as much with the rest of its' community. If I don't know about free films, and quickly, I'm not going to be able to go to them, and post about what I have seen. And so I'm just not going to be drawn to the site as often as I am at present. I'm afraid that I just don't have the time to visit the forum regularly on the off chance that someone might have posted a code in the last few minutes.
If this continues, and spreads to a significant number of other members and to new members, I fear that it will significantly diminish the value of the entire forum, and the amount of traffic to it and on it.

Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
I'm not getting the emails either and I've been a member a long time and one who does contribute regularly.
I do think davewatts001 makes a few valid points.
However, I do acknowledge this is a free site and I am grateful to all on here.

Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
There's always been a large number of reasons for email notification problems. Apart from when we exceeded the quota (which we haven't in a while), the issues are usually individual rather than epidemic which makes it very hard to help. The best you can is look back through the topic and run through the suggestions. I don't want to have a back and forth with someone over days only for it to turn out they didn't check their spam folder.
For simplicity's sake, I'll post what comes to mind now:
*Check your subscriptions here, make sure they're all marked as read. Check your PM box as well if you've set email alerts for those. The less you're subscribed to, the easier it is to keep track of.
*Mark the 'Expired Stuff' board as read. Threads, for which you received your last alert, can end up here before you've read them. You will still need to 'read' the thread to get your alerts.
*If you're still not getting alerts, go nuclear. Make sure you've caught up on all the threads you want to read then click 'Mark forums read' on the board overview.
Board-side, there are some things we know can cause kinks in the forum software. Aside from when alerted threads are moved, there can be trouble when new members post in the Free Films board, as their posts are held in the moderation queue. Theoretically, when they get approved, this might confuse the board (i.e. it can't send a "new post" alert for a post from a few hours back). I'm not sure. Chat or duplicate posts deleted before they can be seen might cause problems as well.
steve knows more than I do about the server side of things.
Mine are coming through fine, so there's certainly no forum-wide issue. I am, however, interested to know more when it happens to an established member who I can trust to have gone through the usual checks. It would be useful if you could copy and paste here the last email alert you got, and include the time and date the email was delivered. Please wait until you haven't had alerts for at least a week, and confirm that you've gone through the checks further up this post.

Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
Thank you. I did all of that and got today's email. Seemed there was an archived one that may have been the cause. Fingers crossed.AYBG wrote:There's always been a large number of reasons for email notification problems. Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
When/what was your last alert? There was an instance of this on Saturday:
