Saw the Martian at the New MK Stadium Odeon. The film was a cross between Moon (2009) and Gravity (2013). Some funny lines from Damon's Dairy chats. I'm still not sold on the 3D, it added most to the exterior space station scenes. I think the experience would improve greatly if the cinemas would turn off out all the spot lights as you see these reflected on the inside of the 3D glasses. Both this cinema and the MK Cineworld keep overhead lights on during the film, so you never really get fully engrossed like you did when the cinemas plunged you into complete darkness!!

I saw this with my Cineworld card on Sunday and was blown away. It made me want to see Moon again, and totally blew Gravity out of the water. Great humour, scenery and soundtrack, and I was really routing for Matt Damon, especially at the end.

I'm going to Science the Shit out of this! 8/10

2nd screening at Wester Hailes was also packed.
Glad to have had the chance to go home and eat first especially given the length.
I totally b*ght into this. Great movie. Matt Damon was excellent and the humour really lifted the film. Gravity was very very dull by comparison.
Highly recommend this.

Saw this at the 18:15 screening at Tottenham Court Road last night (thanks so much bevvy for the tickets). Really glad to be at the earlier screening.
The screening was totally full and they could have used a much bigger screen and been able to fill it no problem. Surprised it was a 3D showing, and really enjoyed the opening scenes on Mars but then forgot it was 3D for most of the rest of it and I was not fooled into thinking I had space dust in my eye!
I had read the book a while ago and was interested to see how it actually translated on film. I preferred the fact that the film diluted a lot of the science stuff, which went way over my head in the book. But on the opposing side I felt that the film lacked any real tension or peril, which is something I think the book did very well. Perhaps this was partly down to me knowing what happens already though.
I enjoyed the humour, which really makes the film stand out from other notable space films. I thought that Matt Damon was surprisingly comedic in the dry and witty title role. The soundtrack also added to this lightness of mood, and there was a surprising and non-traditional use of music. I loved the use of Bowie's 'Starman'.
I didn't feel like it was long at all, which for me is a really good sign that I've thoroughly enjoyed a film.
I really enjoyed this and will be recommending it to everyone. Thanks again to bevvy for the tickets.

There was a particular scene that made me immediately think of Moon. I haven't seen Moon and think I might do so just to compare the two movies.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this. The humour definitely helped with all the science and survival bits.
Also some quite tense/suspense-filled moments which made for a great movie... much better than expected actually.

8/10 and highly recommended.

Understandably, Cinema's usually leave the lights on until the movie begins; the only people I've ever seen in any cinema fumbling around and tripping over are the latecomers :)

I did relly enjoy this film, haven't been a big fan of Damon in the past but he really is great in this.

I'm gonna admit that I was dozing off, only cos I had stayed up past my bedtime waiting on the lunar eclipse! Which I missed anyway cos I fell asleep So I was quite shattered! Anyway I enjoyed the film for the most part, aw man I'd love to float around a spaceship.....not in space though lol. A lot of the science stuff went over my head! Quite tense towards the end 7/10

The second screening at Odeon Tottenham Court and was also jam packed. Very glad I managed to see it at a later screening as it was thoroughly enjoyable despite its length. Matt Damon brought charisma to the character and was perfect for the role. Engrossing, beautiful cinematography and a sharp script, with good doses of humour. 9/10

A good film that uses basics from physics and maths. It was enjoyable although maybe a little bit too long. The mars landscape scenes looked very much the same.
