Spectre
Late night screening this film did NOT disappoint I thought it was personally very good and alot better than Skyfall Daniel Craig looks like he's getting on now and they should freshen it up with a new Bond but all in all classis 007.

Re: Spectre
OK, let me preface this by saying I'm not the biggest Bond fan, and neither do I think Daniel Craig is a good actor. But Skyfall was a great film, so I was interested to see what was next. Wish I hadn't bothered. This is one laborious movie. It harks back to those classic Bond's of Connery and Moore, which is OK, but this is modern movie making nowadays. In the years since we have had incredible car chases (Fast & Furious), hand to hand combat fighting (The Raid) and true espionage (Bourne movies), Spectre feels old. It hasn't caught up with the rest of the movie universe. It feels about three decades out of date. The set pieces aren't fanciful or jam packed with action I really couldn't tell you what happened in each part as I've forgotten most of it.
Craig continues his one dimensional acting that see's Bond be nothing more than a Terminator. Waltz is fine, but his accent sounds clipped.
There are a ridiculous amount of out of focus shots. The product placement is off the chain. The gadgets are some of the worst Bond has ever used. It's also way too long as well, needs 40 minutes shaving off it.
This has to be the swan song for all associated with the Craig years of Bond. It's lost it's edge that it had in Skyfall. It needs to change and quickly as it's getting left behind by a film franchise that is about to start filming part 8 (Hello! Fast & Furious) and that is sad. This is a two star film elevated by two words: James Bond.
P.S. Two other words: Sexy Octopus (You'll know what I mean when you see it)

Re: Spectre
Can see both POVs (just like the movie with it's numerous rack focus shots).
2/3's straight forward classic Bond, which they haven't actually done with Craig.
Surprised to see both recent Bond ads practically referenced in the movie.
Last third takes all the worst hallmarks of the franchise and does nothing to enliven them.

Re: Spectre
I'm a big bond fan but was left wanting somewhat with this latest installment. Aside from some great set pieces and an excellent unsettling torture scene, the film which set off at top speed, felt a little like the wheels fell off in the middle then was pushed over the line.
Waltz wasn't really at his usual best, the character lacked menace and was a bit flat. Bautista just came across a bit silly as the mute, save for one word, super henchman. Fiennes isn't my M in any sense, unless M is for meh.
Perhaps if this is DC's final outing then it isn't a bad thing. A new Bond would be welcome and a new director too please. Mendes has ran out of ideas.
Purely as it's Bond 7/10

Re: Spectre
saw this on monday at empire leicester sq, on their new 4k laser projector imax screen, with new imax speakers in the ceiling ! (and its £5 cheaper than odeon bfi imax, £19.95 vs £25!!! an technically more advanced! 2k+6speakers vs 4k+12speakers)
and it looked pristine, like a brand new 35mm print that was rock solid! the opening scene was okay, the editing of the helicopter parts let it down, an i feel Sam is just copying good bits from old bonds (roger moore at mardi gras?)
the eye bit is cut on uk version, im sure uncut its prob shot for shot on what blade runner had :)
the film is very very good, but really felt like an homage to Indiana jones to me (yes im aware indy was Spielberg/lucas' Fyou to bonds of the time )
even the main female felt a bit like a indy girl to me.
the fight in the train was great cept the lame ending to it
not that funny... again this felt like a homage to jaws or even live an let die.
the drilling scene is also cut in the uk, and maybe theres a big chance they cut waltz asking "is it safe?"
the final act was good but i can see why MI5 rogue nation pushed their release forward now and beat them to it
ill give it an 8, it held the 2h20m+ well in a packed screen! the explosions will make me rewatch it for sure, prob at picturehouse 4k dolby atmos screen in trocadero!
i hope in the (confirmed) follow up they redo thunderball (joke) i mean i hope they do some kind of version of "on her majestys secret service :)

Re: Spectre
I thoroughly enjoyed this and it made a great evening out. I actually feel like I've been out for a whole evening rather than just a quick in and out hour and a bit that some films are.
It was rather grey though. It could almost have been black and white.
I enjoyed the homages to previous Bonds including gadgets and cars, but it was a bit contrived when you discover the identity of certain people. There was definitely way too much copying from previous films. I'd feel a little conned if I had pa*d to see this rather than a voucher.
Still. It did what it said on the packet. It entertained. It didn't let me down.

Re: Spectre
I saw this on Friday with high expectations and was left a little disappointed.
Skyfall did a great job of balancing the grit of Craig's world with numerous nods to classic Bond, but Spectre struggles to repeat this. It gets bogged down at times trying to link the story to previous Craig films (why remind people of the terrible Quantum of Solace, not a great idea) and I didn't b*y the main backstory or
On the plus side Daniel Craig was very good again and there were some wonderful set pieces from the spectacular opening, the Austrian sequence and the stuff on the train (which nodded, sometimes a little too much, to past films, Live and Let Die, From Russia With Love and various snow set Bond scenes).
But Monica Bellucci was underused and there wasn't much chemistry between Daniel Craig and Lea Seydoux and Christophe Waltz's role doesn't make as much impact as Javier Bardem. Oh and the theme tune is terrible, probably only just about better than Madonna's Die Another Day effort.
Overall I enjoyed it, but it's no Casino Royale or Skyfall 7/10

Silva's links to Spectre, not everything has to be connected, what's wrong with the occasional separate baddie like Drax or Sorin.

Re: Spectre
Used a Sweet Sunday voucher, expires today. Not as good as I was expecting. Lots of action, car chases, and special effects. The story is a bit tedious, and so is the villan. There are subtle references to the old Bonds, like the train fight scene, the Alpine retreat in the mountains, and the ejector seat. The opening sequence is brilliant though with the Day of the Dead celebrations and the helicopter overhead. I did feel that Daniel Craig seemed a bit bored with the role. 7/10

Re: Spectre
An underwhelming Bone adventure. The action and fight sequences are entertaining (especially the helicopter battle) but the set pieces are linking what is essentially a paper-thin plot. The story is very contrived, forcing connections between previous missions that don't feel natural, and Daniel Craig is even worse here then he was in Skyfall and looks like he is sleepwalking through the film. A weak story, bland baddie, lack of witty one liners, wooden Bond and no cool gadgets make this is a disappointing effort overall. 6.5/10.

Re: Spectre
I was rather underwhelmed by this as well. I love Bond. The first film I ever saw at the cinema was Dr No, and I've seen all of them ever since.
Whilst I do think Daniel Craig is the ideal Bond for the 2000's he's been doing it for 10 years now, and looks rather tired with it all. I didn't connect with M at all, Q fit right in but I'm not sure about Moneypenny.
The screen at Wandsworth was packed and I ended up in the front row. I've sat there before, but with this film, everything seemed to be out of focus most of the time. No crisp colours, lots of focusing either to the background, or the foreground (not sure what that is called, but it was really annoying.)
Some of the traits of the older Bond films seemed to be creeping back in, but didn't work at well as they should have.
So many silly things happening, Immaculate wardrobes for every occasion pop up. Vehicles are all ready to be taken and trashed by Bond. Big elaborate schemes to get Bond and kill him, which all depended on circumstance.
I really didn't rate the villain, especially when he was in the sockless outfit
. Didn't rate the love interest either.
However, I loved the first part of the opening sequence. Even in disguise I knew it was Bond
and it made me want to get over to Mexico for the Day of the Dead.
I know I'm being rather harsh, Until I go see it again at a better cinema, and sit a bit further back. I'll not give it a mark
