Saw this last week, and really enjoyed it. It was a lot more moving than I expected it to be, especially in the latter half of the film. Maggie Smith is superb in the role of Mrs Shepherd, it's a shame she hasn't taken on more comedy roles because she excels at it. Also thought Alex Jennings did a great job as Alan Bennett, he has some of the best lines of the film.

I enjoyed this as well. It's a typically British story and there is that light comedic vein throughout.

Weather so bad decided to use a voucher to see this. Only 8 of us in a wet afternoon screening. So no distractions of mobile phones etc. o/
Maggie Smith was excellent in this and you could almost smell her as the vagrant!
I am not a fan of Alan Bennett so didn't like the split personality with two Alan Bennett's talking to themselves - found that annoying. 7 /10

Nothing much happens but what it shows is brilliantly done! All the actors are great and Maggie Smith deserves an Oscar! I love the dialogue.

lovely little film, DAme Maggie was so good, I really felt for her, and was dying to know the full story. The British excel in these odd little stories. When I heard the title, I really didn't think it was for me - until I saw the trailers etc.

Only about 10 or so in the room, so nice and quiet.

Shame the lights didn't go down enough. If I can look at my watch or read a paper, its too bright :nono: 8/10
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

Used a voucher too today! Dame Maggie Smith was outstanding in her role and was so believable as the Lady in the Van.
I certainly have now googled the true story as I loved the opening scene of the film with "A mostly true story".
Although there were a variety of other characters who had contact with Mrs Shephard, all with differing reactions as would probably be the case in real life, none of them made any real impact other than Alex Jennings, playing the part of Alan Bennett.
Again, the trailers do suggest more comedy than the film has but I enjoyed it just the same.
Marks 7.5/10
