The Here After

#1 Post by prettyxcool » Wed Apr 06, 2016 12:43 am

Last week's Ourscreen screening at the Ritzy, was held in the upstairs screen, with very comfortable seating. First time, the rep is standing inside the screen checking people's names off, before handing out allocated seating tickets, and quite distracting while the trailers were running, as people showed their tickets on their mobiles, and a discussion ensues from the rep!

Film was quite thought provoking, but quite brutal though. A teenager is released from prison/hospital after serving time for a crime which is not talked about in the film, and goes back to the same school and community where the crime was committed! The film, however, does not seem to take sides but shows the older generation as more forgiving, and a sense of hope but on the opposite side, in the younger generation, who are less tolerant and more brutal. 7/10

Saw that last week in Greenwich. Slow, intelligent and thought provoking. The younger people were less forgiving as the victim was one of them.
The older people were not more forgiving but maybe could understand that by going to prison, the culprit had pa*d his dues.
However was he right to go back home and expect everything to get back to normal ??

Good review!
It came across as more forgiving to me as they were more willing to give the boy a second chance, they were not resentful, or angry and wishing to carry on punishing him, whereas the younger people felt all these. LOL

I liked this too. I liked how they didn't tell us too much about what he did which made you feel really uneasy about his reintroduction into the community, which reflected how everyone else was feeling. The family/community breakdown felt very real. Certainly a slow burner.
