I can't disagree with any of the previous posts. It was cheesy and predictable in places. Take a well-used formula and use it again. However, that said, I rather enjoyed it. There were some good lines well delivered along the way. It was marvellous to see Vanesa Redgrave, though Franco Nero had very little to do.
I was too distracted by the beauty of Verona and the Tuscan countryside to dwell too long on the film's shortcomings. I feel a trip to Verona coming on.

6.5/10 from me.

Not much to add to what others have said. It was really, really cheesy and predictable. But on a positive note, I liked the scenery and there were some funny moments in the film. 5.5/10

Took the family to see this at quite a full Silverlink last night. It was a pleasant enough romantic drama, elevated to something a little more special because of the stunning Italian countryside and the street scenes around Verona . I spent a lovely three weeks touring around Italy a few years ago and it was like I had been transported back there to reminisce for an hour and a half.

I thought the story line idea was quite a good one but admit that there were several plot inconsistencies.

The wedding reception meal in particular and some other parts of the film reminded me so much of that Bertolli/Olivera low fat spread advert from a while back that I was grinning like a cheshire cat in gloom of the the cinema.




I agree with Beate about liking the nod to the Spartacus film too – "I am Bertolli Olivera!". "No, I am Bertolli Olivera!!" Great Stuff.

Sophie and Charlie’s relationship was more believable when they were being irritated by each other. And while I could understand Charlie’s attraction to Sophie, I failed to spot why Sophie would ever fall for Charlie. Ultimately, I thought the chemistry between them was a little lacking.

Also, I recall seeing in the film trailer Charlie driving along and checking Sophie out through his rear view mirror. He took his eyes off the road and then had to swerve a bit to miss an oncoming car – I can’t recall seeing that part at all in the actual film. Shame as I thought it was nicely done.

I liked the films soundtrack, in particular I thought Taylor Swift’s song "Love Story" fitted in perfectly when Lorenzo arrived back at the farm on his horse, at which point I was dabbing my eyes.

Great performances from Vanessa Redgrave (but she didn’t say very much did she!) and Franco Nero her long lost love Lorenzo Bertolli (who looked very impressive but said even less than Vanessa!!) Also a good portrayal of Isabella one of the Juliet secretaries from the (very) strikingly attractive Luisa Ranieri.

I am giving this one 7.5 out of 10.

He looked curiously like a blend of Leonardo Di Caprio, Ryan Phillippe and Heath Ledger. Most bizarre!

Well, it was nice to see Beate on the 43 bus! As for 'Letters to Juliet' itself, I don't know why I was hoping to like it when I think Romeo and Juliet is the most overrated love story of all time. This film has just about the silliest premise ever (even by romantic comedy standards- though it seemed a bit confused as to whether it was a romantic comedy or a romantic drama), Charlie was so unappealing and there was absolutely no chemistry between him and Amanda Seyfried. Vanessa Redgrave did give a very nice performance though and it was quite spooky just how much she looked like an older version of her daughter Natasha Richardson.

I didn't even think the cinematography was particularly special. Or at least not a patch on something like 'A Room With A View.'
