It's not only that it shakes the row of seats but I don't want some dirty pair of trainers lolling over my left shoulder.
It seems to be happening more and more often. Yet other people seem to put up with it without saying a word.
You are not alone -- drives me mad too and I do say something if dangling legs are in my proximity. Mind you the amount of abuse meted out when someone dares to question someone else's manners is getting pretty worrying.

Very true and it might be why an older lady said nothing to a track-suited chav at a recent preview.
A few days ago some guy kicked my elbow which was on my arm rest. No apology given just a grunt when I pushed his foot off.

sorry to hear about you all going through this viewing spoiling experience .
In my experience this problem seems to happen more in the older cinemas (eg some of the Curzons)where there is less leg room rather than the roomier more modern cinemas (e.g. the Vues). I suppose those who can make straight to the back row to avoid the problem.
But IMO even if the audience member is considerate enough to keep their feet of the seats if they are tall they can still by accident inadvertedly bang their knee or foot against the seat in front of them , in the older cinemas where the seats are so close together the vibration from this thud can still travel all the way down the row of seats in front of them which can of course be distracting to all concerned. Therefore I think part of the problem is a design problem which modern cinema designers are recognizing and trying to remedy.

The problem is that cinemas don't employ enough staff to allow them to do regular screen checks.

I understand your surprise but I think that many people would rather those in authority (i.e. the ushers/security staff) vigilante as they would be more effective and have more power i.e. the power to have the offending audience member removed from the cinema, where as the ordinary member of public by themselves do not have that power.

I dunno all it takes is a group to ridicule the nuisance causer and they soon shut up. maybe the environment plays a part - heckling the heckler just increases the problem for others.
Other than bringing Tormund Giantsbane into the cinema to give them mean-as-shyt stares.
