No Preview Screenings Listed?

#1 Post by ClarkKent77 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 11:57 pm

Does anyone know why the Free Films forum has been so quiet recently?

There are no screenings on it at the moment, and there haven't been any recently.

I know there was a preview screening of Ghostbusters in Edinburgh last weekend, but it never appeared in the forum.

The reason I ask is that I'm a freelance critic, and I rely on these screenings for review purposes.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Stephen

The main source of Free Films over the previous months has been from the Sun and the Times. Sun are discontinuing the Sun Perks and the previews seem to have stopped earlier. Times also seemed to have stopped previews except occasional ones in certain Picture House cinemas. SFF have had almost none for past weeks. Very disappointing. Summer can be a quieter time but this year seems worse than before.
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston

I thought it was an O2 app random dip. Certainly not something you were able to book tickets for with certainty. It was add your name to a list and hope for the best.

Anyway this is a bad time for screenings but its not a complete bust. Screenings will return soon.

...which was a little unusual especially as it redirected to SFF. I was expecting it to be less of a lottery, and also expected there to be a code after the "winners" had been allocated. T'was not to be. Certainly wasn't first come first served either.

We can't guarantee screenings, we just collate and list them. There's been a bit of a drought recently but I'm sure it will pick up again. However, there's no guarantee and you shouldn't rely on these for your job.

As a freelance critic, have you contacted your local cinema (s) to alert them to that fact? If you show evidence of your reviews they might be able to help you and point you in the direction of free screenings for the media.

I have 2 Odeons near me with easy parking which was my reason for choosing Limitless. My niece had just b*ght Cineworld Unlimited as suits her better. I've definitely found it worth it as I've seen 37 films since 1 April.
