War On Everyone

#1 Post by yogi » Thu Sep 29, 2016 12:03 pm

I walked out after half an hour.

I'm a big fan of The Guard, but I didn't laugh once at this and didn't feel there was any real chemistry between the cops.

I didn't hate it, I just didn't find it entertaining enough to stay.

I saw this yesterday at the Mayfair hotel. My friend and I both enjoyed it notwithstanding all the language, torture, murder etc
Black comedies are not really my choice but it was a little different. I did think it was quite funny and enjoyed the music as well. Lots of jokes but not for those who are easily offended, jokes about jihadists etc  I think this is one you will have to go and see and make up your own mind. 6/10

and I am going with a Hell Yeah! I loved seeing Michael Pena before the film - lucky Alexander S wasn't there or I wouldn't have been liable for my actions :red: :shifty: .

So I loved this, I laughed guiltily at all the jokes, I did think there was chemistry between the leads, and I am sort of hoping for a sequel.

Its not at good as a Shane Black script like The Nice Guys but still a good black comedy 8/10

I wasn't keen at the beginning of the film but I thought I would stick it out whilst wondering whether I should have gone to watch Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Alexander S is definitely fit and easy on the eye. The film got better and I thought the jokes were laugh out loud funny. It was a good watch after a difficult day at work.

I wasn't sure what the cops were investigating at first (I was tired though) but the plot got better. I warmed to the characters. The acting was good throughout.

The film is not for everyone but some people will love it. My +1 thought the film was amazing.

My view 6/10 (I was smiling at the end so it was good)

Film written and performed by people who think this project was cool. Oh how wrong they were. This movie was embarrassing for all concerned. Can't wait to see what rotten tomatoes thinks of it.

When I saw this as part of Odeon Screen Unseen last Monday I liked it for the most part but thought it a little disappointing compared to The Guard and Calvary. Admittedly I also saw it at Odeon Panton Street, which probably didn't help.
I actually enjoyed it a lot more on a second viewing this evening. The funny moments in the script were just as funny, while the rather messy plot didn't bother me as much this time round.
Skarsgard and Pena are a joy to watch, and the supporting cast are solid. Malcolm Barratt and David Wilmot in particular are fantastic as a couple of informants.
The soundtrack is also great with excellent use of Glen Campbell and Jackson C Frank (who had something of a minor resurgence after two of his songs were used in Martha Marcy May Marlene.
Overall it may be the lesser of the three films that John Michael McDonagh has made (it's anarchic tone, black humour liable to offend and US setting is more reminiscent of his brother Martin's Seven Psychopaths), but there's still much to enjoy.

I'm sure had you stayed, you'd have grown to hate it.

Trying to catch up on films I missed while on holiday so watched this in Braehead cinema all by myself! Best part was having no distractions as no other viewers . . . or maybe that would have been better.
I didn't warm to the main characters at all and definitely didn't see the film as comedy. The story could have been much better as well. All in I was quite disappointed by the film and can't imagine choosing to ever watch it again. Unless you're desperate to use a voucher, I'd give it a miss!
Marks 5/10
BTW it's still interesting to see that some others did find it funny . . . we're all different, thank goodness!
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston
