T2 Trainspotting
T2 Trainspotting
I just got out of the cinema a few hours ago, having watched Trainspotting 2. I see there is no thread for it yet. How did you guys find it?
For me Trainspotting 2 had a lot to live up to and going into the cinema I was definitely not expecting something as good as the first one. It didn't really manage to keep the same pace or even be as funny as the 1996 one managed to be (for me that one was a 10/10). However, it did make me laugh a couple of times and also made me think about life a bit. I don't know if it is just me, but these kind of movies leave me with a bit of dread every time. Anyway, all in all 7/10.

I thoroughly enjoyed it although I could have done with some subtitles for Robert Carlyle a couple of times. Loved the tracks used too.
I also give it 7/10

Same here :/ I actually b*ght Skagboys a while ago, but unfortunately had to leave as I was spending way too much time trying to understand what it said. My level of Scottish English is not as good as I would like. The Sparrow wrote:I could have done with some subtitles for Robert Carlyle a couple of times. Loved the tracks used too.

I'm usually okay and generally my ear becomes accustomed quickly. But I missed a couple of his lines.

I thought this would be Porno and was disappointed that it isn't.
It's a good film it's just not the movie I thought they would make.

Re: T2 Trainspotting
I am a big fan of the 1st film, so I had hope hopes for the sequel.
Well - it was definitely worth the 20 year wait! The return of all main original cast member brought a nostalgic look at each of their lives through the last 20 years, and also a look into their childhoods. This, in someways, explained how they came to be in their present positions, in a sympathetic yet realistic way.
There are plenty of references to the 1st film and so I feel you would need to watch the 2st film to fully understand the sequel. The performances of all cast member were brilliant, sometimes making you feel empathy so quite scary/nasty characters.
I would definite recommend this film to an Trainspotting fans.

First one is a classic because it defines and represents a decade and is somehow compelling despite it's dark subject and very little story. Which is a Danny Boyle trademark, he makes amazing movies out of very thin premises.
Second one almost feels like it was directed by somebody else as weaker sequels often are. The visual style and soundtrack undermine the movie whereas the same thing in the original would have been used to uplift.
I guess it's partly about the dangers of nostalgia but telling AND showing that makes for a very depressing watch. It's a must see for fans but not a rush to see, it only really makes sense if it's the second part of a trilogy. Maybe Porno could provide a satisfying climax?

Re: T2 Trainspotting
I can barely remember the original apart from the drug SFX scene. This is fun too, with more of a story, less character yet more reflection. You need to see the first really to enjoy this, it builds on that one rather than being a stand alone movie.
If they make a third these guys will be in their 50s or 60s - and no deaths due to hard durg abuse, bit of a joke.

fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
Re: T2 Trainspotting
Read a bit about the movie now and it seems this was as much Porno as they could get away with. A lot made it in and the actual porn storyline wouldn't make sense present day. Also a lot more filmed than was released.Mega Ron wrote:I thought this would be Porno and was disappointed that it isn't.
Apparently a third movie could be based on a Begbie book but I'd be happy if that was expanded upon too to incorporate every character.

Spoiler
Show
One death in the first movie. One off screen in between movies. One serious health issue. One switched to Cocaine which only leaves Spud, who is suicidal and the point of the character is that he's a survivor.
