Re: The Karate Kid
Some time ago I went to see a stand-up comedy show, to which a couple decided to take their baby. Needless to say, the baby started crying at one point and the comedian took the mickey out of the couple. I doubt that couple will ever do that again.

Haha, well they are ideally placed to do so. Would have been awesome if Jackie Chan could have silenced the babies with a direct "Hang up your coat" look! Was that coat topic part of the original film or do you think the Smith parents added it as Jaden does it at home too?

Re: The Karate Kid
I managed to leave work early to watch this film and I think the film was okay-good. I'll give it 7.3 / 10
I don't like Jackie Chan but lately I think I'm starting to don't mind him (you should watch Little Soldier if you can put up with reading english subs). Anyways, like usual, Jackie Chan made the fighting scene with the kids less serious and clown-like, which was funny. I really liked the jacket on/off training bit. I think the mum was quite funny too lolz. I do agree that Jaden (not Jayden
) Smith was a good actor for a little guy and carried the film well. Although the film was long, I thought it went by really quickly. I know it's called Karate Kid but I would cringe when someone was getting beaten up! I've been to China before (when I was 11?) but the film makes me want to visit again, eventhough the Great Wall part was truly OTT! Empire was too packed for my liking and the seats were HORRIBLE! Why were they so springy and rocky?!
Overall, the film wasn't bad, I might even watch it again with my BF and I hope I can leave work early to attend more free previews!

The poor little lad, his first main part and everyone misspells his name! The name is JADEN, folks!

Re: The Karate Kid
I would regard this as a "kids film" and wouldn't dream of going to see it without a kid were it not for the presence of Jackie Chan (I'd watch anything with him in)mandmc10 wrote:PG also means suitable (and of interest) for ages 8 and over and most (all?) parents know this.... But for free screenings and cheap kids AM on weekends and school holidays they bring babies, toddlers, etc.... even if the film is unsuitable or even scary for their age. A child ticket now cost min.! 5 pounds + and even more for 3D for any new movie on weekdays or weekends. So this is to do with money... and the interests of others and even other older children are not high priority on these people's lists....Beate wrote: And I have a niggle: this film is PG which means Parental Guidance. To me this means as a parent you decide whether your kid is old enough to appreciate the film. It does not mean "Hey, great, free babysitter service!" There were a few babies who cried noisily, clearly not appreciating the film, and me clearly not appreciating them! Parents, think of the other cinemagoers please!
For the Toy Story 3 they will be bringing kids 2+ or may be even younger, well rested after their afternoon nap, so be prepared Beate!
My grandson is 7 next week and he really loved it . He had seen the trailers and was eagerly looking forward to it. I wouldn't say there was anything unsuitable for him but he wasn't able to keep up with the subtitles so missed a bit of the plot. Despite that he said that if he had a billion hands he would give it a billion thumbs up! He even confessed to shedding a tear during a sad moment. I wouldn't have wanted to bring his 2 year old sister though - it would have been of no interest to her whatsoever.
Beate, be warned - she will be there on sunday and she doesn't usually have an afternoon nap (though she has been known to fall asleep during the film)

Re: The Karate Kid
Beate I had a noisy family across the aisle to me. The girl was a toddler and went to the loo about 5 times, when not doing that, she was roaming around climbing the stairs as she was so bored, poor thing. She was chattering away quite loudly as well.Beate wrote:Haha, well they are ideally placed to do so. One another point and I know lots of people wont agreee with me, but, it was fantastic not having people using thier mobiles through the film

I agree with that! Although if they really didn't want mobile phone use, they should have confiscated them. There was one bloke wandering around telling people to turn their phones off, but as soon as his back was turned, some took it out again.

Re: The Karate Kid
My GD loved the film, couldn't understand why the boys were so 'nasty' to him and didn't like the Jaden being beaten up. She had her head in her hands towards the end - couldn't bare to see him loose. This is with her seeing the original film several times.
I didn't like the mums' character - couldn't take to her at all. The other children were fine and the 'bad' boy was acting well. Jackie Chan - I enjoyed his acting but also just wanted to give him a good wash and a cuddle.
Give the film 8/10
I too have been to China and would like to go back and see more. The running up the wall of China is well OTT. The steps are not set at a regular height and make running almost impossible going up hill - not that I tried running!!
