There are supposed to be regional premieres at the same time as the London premiere on the 17th July. I believe Middlesbrough is one of the locations. Not sure where you'll be able to get tickets though. At the moment they are only available through a Tesco Clubcard competition.

Wow, the film making gods of Pixar seems to have done it yet again, 143 critic reviews, 99% positive on Rottentomotoes. Not reading any reviews though until I watch the film. Gosh so long to wait, end of July! I'm truly envying all you lucky previewers!

We arrived at 1.30pm at the cinema but saw no one around so got a pizza slice and were about to explore the festival in the square, when a_person turned up, then 5rannoch. All of a sudden I turned around and out of nowhere a queue had formed up! We hastened to join it and it began to move at around 1.45pm. My colleague, the last one on my ticket of 4, turned up just in time when we were going in, and we bagged seats at the back. Then the frantic texting began, who was here yet and who needed seats, prettyxcool no, bevvy yes, ejwrank was happy on the left side, and I largely couldn't understand hdaniel82 on the phone.

Talk about not needing the timesplus card - you wouldn't even have needed a printout, they were just waving everyone in, handing out 3D glasses and glasses wipes. You could have wandered in from the street! When it started at 3pm it was quite full although there was still space on the sides, especially downstairs.

People clapped at the beginning and again at the end. First we got another Pixar shortfilm (peeps might remember The Cloud from the Up screenings). This one was called Day and Night and was really quite cute. Bevvy's grandson had delevoped some kind of man crush on my OH and insisted on sitting next to him throughout, actually quite behaving himself! Didn't really see that many kids funnily enough, unless they were all down below where I couldn't see them.

The film was good but I liked the previous Toy Story films more somehow, so only giving it a 7.5/10.

Back from seeing this at the Empire Leicester Square. I was expecting them not to ask for the Times+ membership card but I wasn't expecting them to not even bother looking at or asking for the printouts. Very odd. Also, why did they bother having an hour wait between doors open and film start? Everyone was in their seats by 2.30 and the kids just started getting restless.
Anyway, proceedings got under way with the traditional Pixar short. The beautiful 'Day & Night', an amazing mix of 2D and 3D animation that managed to fit more wit and imagination into it's brief running time than 'Shrek Forever After' managed to in it's 90 minutes.
On to Toy Story 3, Pixar does it again. A beautifully done film that pretty much stands as an example of how to make sequel to a popular animation that doesn't just feel like money-making exercise. It manages the perfect balance of introducing new characters without making it seem over-populated and without neglecting the characters we've grown to love from the previous films. Of the new characters the stand outs are Lotso and Ken (Both excellently voiced by Ned Beatty and Michael Keaton) and the wonderfully pretentious Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton).Flight of the Conchords fans should listen out for Kristen Schaal making her second appearance in a 3D animation this year (she also appears in Shrek).
Admittedly the story is a variation on the plots from the previous 2 films. The toys get trapped somewhere and have to escape to get back to Andy's house but they manage to offer a fresh twist on that plot so that it doesn't feel like they are just covering the same ground over and over again. Here there's a 'prison movie' theme that works wonderfully.
The animation is, predictably, breathtaking but it's the emotional weight this movie has that really makes this a memorable experience. As someone who holds their hands up to shedding a few tears during the first 15 minutes of 'Up', I'm not ashamed to say there are a couple of moments that almost had a similar effect here, including one involving the slightly creepy 'big baby' that's as surprising as it is moving, plus a final scene that is really touching. The film is also not afraid to go into some surprisingly dark areas. A back story for 'Lotso' told by a character called Chuckles the Clown is particularly dark stuff and shows how deft Pixar are at introducing contrasting moods without losing the audience.
Overall I can't recommend this highly enough. Beautifully animated, a great story and a wonderful voice cast make this an almost perfect experience. A worthy sequel and a definite must-see.
Oh and fans of Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli should keep an eye out for a glorious nod to My Neighbour Totoro.
