Re: The Karate Kid
Saw this on monday, the kid's initial training reminded me of a story I heard about 30 years ago.
A chinese family sent their son to a Shaolin temple to learn Kung Fu. His training consisted of sitting in front of a bucket of water and punching the water - hour after hour, day after day, month after month - just punching water. After a year of this he was allowed home to visit his family, who asked him what he'd learned there. His response was an angry "NOTHING" and then out of sheer frustration hit the nearest table - shattering it. He was surprised and his family was impressed.
The training with the jacket reminded me of this story.
There was also a "brief" nod to "wax on wax off" lasting all of 2 seconds.

Re: The Karate Kid
I saw this at Silverlink on Monday.
The queing outside was a bit of a faff because the whole cinema was empty!
I was sort of dreading seeing this film, thinking it would ruin a classic, or i would get bored, or that Jaden would be rubbish. But my assumptions couldnt have been more wrong!
I loved it, I was so pleased! The up to date twist, the music, the scenery, the acting, the actors!
The teenagers behind us who were talking so bloomin' loudly, kept saying 'Aww Bless Him' and kicked the seats. It was obviously their first time to the cinema, trip out with the juvenile club, or just on earth to annoy me, whichever. Totally ruined the first half hour for me, until i turned around and told them to talk quieter.
So, yeh, Karate Kid, don't just listen to the trailers and avoid pre-conceptions, it's great, embrace change! 9/10!

I am a big fan of the original film and didn’t think this one could compare but I enjoyed it. Smith Junior was great in the role and, while predictable, I found it good fun and watchable.
