Re: Knight and Day
We were at the Empire too -- nice that it was in a decent cinema but wish we could say the same about the film. What total brain-numbing tripe. There was nothing original or stimulating just pulp Hollywood junk fronted by two box office draws. Tom Cruise must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Re: Knight and Day
I was at the Empire today - lovely large cinema.
I really enjoyed the film. I think my brother and I may have been responsible for all the loud laughing. Easy storyline, a tad predictable but if that type of thing does not bother you, then this film is a lot of fun and can be a good laugh. I went along with my brother who is 12 and he found it very funny - I think it appeals to quite a young audience (12 - 16ish may find it very funny, funniness waned with older audience.)
My only problem was just how unrealistic several aspects of the plot was .... but hey, it's Hollywood
I'm not much of a film critic, I enjoy most films and I don't bother too much about the acting, unless its atrocious which this isn't. June (Cameron Diaz), was playing up to the dumb blonde stereotype which was slightly annoying at times but I thought Diaz's acting was fine. I found Tom Cruise's character hilarious... but that may have just been me.
So overall I gave it an 8/10. Not much thinking involved but if you just go along for the ride, it will be great.

Yeah, I must say I had some loud laughing fits too, mainly during the action sequences - not sure I was meant to laugh during them though!

Re: Knight and Day
I'll have to be completely honest and say that for about an hour and a bit I was actually quite enjoying Knight & Day. Sure it was dumb and far-fetched but it was watchable enough. Then something changed. Its constant parade of close escapes and chases became even more tedious. Basically it became less fun and less funny.
The characters became less interesting too. To start off it was unclear whether Cruise's Roy Miller was a good guy or an unhinged lunatic. This was fine as far as it went but it never went far enough. After all this is Tom Cruise. As such this uncertainty became less convincing as the film went on. Also Cameron Diaz's change from passive pawn being dragged about, to an active participant taking on the bad guys in the last half hour just didn't work. Oh and as soonforgotten pointed out Paul Dano was completely wasted.
The CGI, fairly passable early on, also became shockingly poor. The bull run had some of the worst CGI work I've seen in any film recently and the exploding plane at the end was incredibly shoddy. Bizarre as the plane landing sequence and freeway car chase near the beginning weren't too bad. It was almost as if they either ran out of money or had to rush the later effects work to get the film released on time. Rather disappointed to see Weta's name on the end credits.
It's a real shame as there was a decent enough idea there. A chance to resurrect Hitchcock style thrillers like North By Northwest and Charade with modern stars and modern special effects. Hell they even threw in a Macguffin halfway through. But Hitchcock this ain't. A wasted opportunity.
Oh and I didn't really get the relevance of the title either. There's a half-assed attempt to explain the 'Knight' bit but not why it should be called Knight and Day.
And the Vampire Sucks trailer was bloody awful. Even worse than that '41 year old Virgin....' one.

Re: Knight and Day
Well not Rom enough Not Com enough. Cruise should have sent himself up more, that could have made it funnier, I rekcon they missed a good opportunity there. Some really awful CGI sequences, bad dialogue, silly story line. 5/10

Re: Knight and Day
I've begun reading the press junket and can't stop laughing again at all the waxing lyrical. Oh, and here's a disappointment: "Knight and Day is not a send-up. We set out to create a world that feels completely real to the audience, yet is also deeply comic." Sure, planes explode every day, and car chases happen especially when you are the only person left alive in a car spiralling out of control. I had that just the other day, complete with a lunatic hanging off the roof!

Great news.valda wrote:I was really pleased to see Leicester Square mobbed with folk queuing up for Inception
Admittedly my opinion of Knight and Day probably wasn't helped by the fact that I'd been to see Inception again a couple of hours earlier.

Oh was that what it was? I saw a HUGE queue walking back to the tube station after the film, spanning half the square!valda wrote: I was really pleased to see Leicester Square mobbed with folk queuing up for Inception
