Re: Knight and Day
Have I convinced you Beate, lol! Its not that bad...
Go on jpeg, writing all that in my last post, I realise that I did take in quite a lot of the film - I ignored the ridiculous (and albeit there is a lot of it!) and found it was perfectly within the realms of my reality
I think Peter Sarsgaard's character had something to do with that. The FBI cleared that plane and filled it with their agents to take down Miller. Miller was aware that it could possibly happen but got on the plane anyway. Sarsgaard put June on it when he saw that Miller and her had interacted with each other to unsettle Miller.Beate wrote: How was she bumped off the airplane then got a seat again after first pleading in vain with the stewardess? Plane was empty anyway.
Miller sounds like he is a top secret, highly skilled agent, a la Jack Bauer or Sydney Bristow! Not our Syd, but the original. You can see that I used to watch a lot of Alias type TV shows so this was perfectly within the realm of my reality! Such agents have a range of identities at their disposal and contacts around the world to make such things happen. My TV educationBeate wrote: How did they manage to travel through Europe and the Carribean in such a short time and with her being unconcious for most of it and having no passport? Where would a lone agent have the money to check into what looked like the most exclusive hotel in Salzburg? Every credit card transaction would trace him so did he have a wad of cash on him?has also taught me that most are clever enough to realise that the government/organisation they work for can turn on them at any time if they are deemed to be no longer an asset, so they usually stockpile safe houses and resources (like his island) to deal with that time and go off grid when it comes.
Yeah not sure about that, maybe he put a mobile phone mast on his island so he could get reception on his secure phone when he needed it. Don't want to over think the logistics of that one, do you think he cut a special deal with tmobileBeate wrote: How can you have mobile phone reception on the most remote uninhabited Carribean island?![]()
It was meant to be some kind of infinite, ultimate energy source. Ok this is where it gets unrealistic (only here you say...) And yes, pure luck that it didn't explode when it was in Miller's pocket. Unless he was clever enough to keep it in some icecold case and then when Sarsgaard pulled it out it overheated. Yeah I'm reaching on that one.Beate wrote: What was this energy-saving battery thingy anyway and why did it explode at a crucial moment?
Yes some insight may have been nice but this is standard practice when highly skilled individuals agree to become highly trained operatives on secret missions. It is dangerous to keep a normal life. Ask the original Sydney Bristow.Beate wrote: No insight was given into the characters, why would Tom Cruise cut off his old life and make his poor parents think he is dead?
Yeah, I don't have much for you on that. Although I don't see anything unrealistic about a car restorer travelling across the country to get rare car parts that she needs urgently in time for her sister's wedding. And Miller's parents did explain that he was a very strong swimmer who could hold his breath for extraordinary lengths of time - skills like this are probably what identified him as a special prospect / asset to be trained further by the Government.
Beate wrote:Who in their right mind believes Cameron Diaz is a car restorator who would fly half-way across America for a carboretor? How did Tom Cruise manage to escape from the hotel in mili-seconds, then jump into water and never be seen again? Why would Cameron Diaz suddenly turn agent-like too? Death wish?
Maybe they should hire me to help promote the film! I think I just enjoy these type of secret agent style stories, some are told a bit more seriously than others (i.e I don't think Jack Bauer is a comic role). I always have time for Alias, 24, Nikita type shows. But all of them are finished, not sure how I will get my fix.
10/10 to you for that explaination opas!!! Awww...I miss la femme nikita.

Re: Knight and Day
Sorry, it's a rubbish film. For me, the highlight was that gold painted GTO..
Re: Knight and Day
No James Bond this year, and I'd really hoped that this could be the spy movie for the summer. I enjoyed the first 30 mins but the rest of the film didn't live up to the great opening. And it did eventually bother me that the heroine had to be sedated repeatedly by the hero because she's such a liability! Ok popcorn fare. 6/10.

Knight and Day is a fun family movie...cheesy, predictable but funny in parts. There wasn’t much chemistry between Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz but i thought Tom played his character well and it was like watching a funny mission impossible movie. Obviously the movie was flawed and the storyline was ok, but it had enough funny moments to keep it going. 6/10

Oh no don't say that! The producers are so proud of the chemistry between Cruise and Diaz, they are raving about it in the press junket - don't break their little hearts!
