I think that honour has to go to the Kiwis.

New Zealand has the two best cinemas I've ever been to in terms of charm and charachter:-

www.crookedmile.co.nz in Hokitika and

www.paradiso.net.nz - This small classic movie theatre located in Wanaka is a real find. Comfy old sofas, an old Morris Minor, a cafe & bar serving delicious meals before, during or after the movie. Homemade icecream, world-famous hot cookies fresh every intermission & a warm welcome from the friendly staff & Patron. Loads of guides list the cinema as a "must do" & it is truly a memorable movie experience!

"Desrevedly one of Wanaka's biggest attractions & just maybe a NZ National Treasure!" NZ Lonely PLanet

"Halfway through, the film stopped & we had a short interval. Everyone went outside to the adjoining cafe & got freshly baked cookies (still warm), homemade ice cream or a beer & then settled back into their chairs. This is how all cinemas should be. It was more like being round someone's house." UK Guardian

You can sit in the Morris Minor!! It's like a Guide Hut but the charm (and the cakes) win everone over!

I vote for MPC Screening Room on Wardour Street, lovely wide and roomy seats and a large screen (although the slope not that brilliant)

Empire Leicester Square Screen 1 is marvellous for a blockbuster like Star Trek. I also like Apollo Picadilly Circus a lot, Picturehouse Greenwich has the most comfortable seating, and Vue Islington has masses of legroom wherever you sit, and a fantastic slope.

I really like the Cineworld cinema on Haymarket in London. It has a proper old school feel to it and the staff are pretty good too.

the dubble seaters in the nottingham savoy are great for lounging on.

and the screen is big big big -all for a tiny half the price of london (or 1/3rd if you count those west end ones hehe).
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

I really like and miss the very civilised Warwick Arts Centre cinema- probably one of the only popcorn-free cinemas in the country. In London, I like the Islington Vue (comfortable and local) and the Empire Leicester Square is certainly quite spectacular.

I like the BFI's NFT 1, nice clear sound, excellent quality projecting, nice enough seats to while away a few days, not enough legroom, sure, but it's not really meant for marathon screening.

Have to mention the Everyman cinemas, specifically Hampstead and Belsize Park. I did the Rocky all-nighter at the Belsize and it was incredible. So very comfortable.

Also love Empire 1. It's always a fantastic cinematic experience. The Leicester Square Odeon is almost as impressive and it was pretty nifty being in the balcony for Prince of Persia.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I like screen 11 of Cineworld (previously Vue) Greenwich. The screen is supposed to be the largest in Europe.

Otherwise screen 1 of Empire Leicester Square.

Yo Syd_Bris, why do you think Beate likes the fact there are "masses of legroom" at Vue Islington?!
