Re: Black Dynamite
Can't believe I was almost the last one to rock up for this today even though OH and I made it for 6pm. There were only 4 rows with 30 seats plus 6 beanbags at the front, and the last row was reserved for the hacks - who came in fashionably late. Thankfully, prettyxcool and bevvy had kept us seats. Valda, hdaniel82 and phunkygal were there too - and rather a suspiciously high number of black girls, LOL. The ones sitting behind us found everything hysterical and hooted and clapped throughout at the antics of the Lionel Richie-lookalike hero "Black Dynamite". It was rather funny, very authentic 70's in clothes, hairstyles, furniture and wallpaper etc. Thanks to prettyxcool for the bananas! The Hospital Club is lovely btw, and they gave us water bottles and chocolate at the seats.

Re: Black Dynamite
I was bevvy's plus one. I nearly missed the The Hospital Club building as there was no signs or anything - except the number 24! Walked into reception - very plush - and saw Gloria Hunniford, she looked at me and I looked at her. I was thinking to say something when a lady caught her eye and told her "it is in your dressing room upstairs"! Then she said "that's good" and left! She looked stunning, much younger and slimmer than she was on TV.
Film was silly and fun for the first 10 minutes but after that found it very tedious. Like a cartoon character come to live, the acting was quite stiff and the dialogue was very corny and cheesy, as a 70's send up, I suppose it was meant to be, so for that it was actually done very well. 4/10
Loved the chocs and bottles of water. bevvy, Valda and I managed to pick up some more at the end!

I enjoyed the film imensly as I was a teenager in the 70's and remember those blaxploition films very well. Some of it did drag a little bit but for the whole it was great fun. Lots of bits that you nearly missed if you weren't p*ying attention, like the car goin off the cliff bein a completly different car and then the same clipl being used later on in the film.
Lovely to put some more faces to the names, oh, and I went completely the wrong way to get there and only found it cos I'd googled the Hospital Club and recognized the building

LOL so I was doing you a favour with the choccies then!valda wrote: LOL we nearly had to fight for the extra choccies then I spied some more - shame I started my Diet Chef diet today![]()
yeah, the errors were done on purpose to exaggerate the wind up. Reminds me of the send ups on TV comedy sketch shows, like Dawn and French, where everything was so over the top, but as they are just 5-10 minutes, it works, for a full feature film, I found it quite tiring! May be I was just tired today!valda wrote: I enjoyed the film imensly as I was a teenager in the 70's and remember those blaxploition films very well. Re: Black Dynamite
Ah I didn't realise valda and phunkygal were there too, I would've said hi to you guys! Where were you sat?
I was so lucky to have not missed the start of the film, arriving as I did (sweating from the run from Covent Garden tube station!) at 6:25pm, naughty naughty
!!
My OH and I found this frickin hilarious, although possibly not as much as some of the other ladies in our row, the ones who were sat behind Beate!
A 7/10 from us!

I was sat at the end of that row, I think we were talking about the water. There was no water or choccie on either of the end seats.

Re: Black Dynamite
Imagine fighting over choclates! You would never catch me doing that!
There must have been at least 10 FMUKkers including OH’s there last night so that’s 10 0f us, 10 other winners and the journos.
I agree with prettyxcool that the dialogue was corny and the acting stiff, but it was supposed to be, that was the whole point. Everything was delivered with pathos, and that “Dynamite” music was hilarious. Also the overexplaining, for example in this flashback: “I am 18 year old Black Dynamite and you are my 16 year old brother and I have just caught you doing dope again. When will you stop?” There was one hilarious scene where Black Dynamite and his gang suddenly go all intellectual about the Malt Liquor and how do deduce what happened to it by talking about names of mythological gods of war and area codes in Kansas, somehow coming to the overall conclusion that it means drinking the malt liquor gives black men little dicks.

I agree it was a good send up - but it just wore on me, must have been really tired that day!
