Re: Made in Dagenham
I haven't got round to posting yet, but I went to a corporate event for skin therapists last Sunday run by Dermologica as they had a screening of Please Give and I thought the event was all about skin care and it turns out they had the co-producer, Elizabeth Karlsen, from Made in Dagenham talking about this exact film and we saw clips from the film and I thought it was really good - it had humour, comedy and drama, with a really strong cast. It is due out on 1 October, so I am so pleased a code came out for it. Can't wait to see it!
She also said it was originally called We Want Sex, but had to change it here in the UK as difficult to receive funding with a name like that and no-one would put the posters up. But it is still called We Want Sex in Germany and France. We were also shown a clip as to why it was called that.
She was also Chair of Bird's Eye View (www.birds-eye-view.co.uk), a charity set up to celebrate and support woman filmmakers. Apparently, only 6% of directors are female. The interviewer was Rachel Millward, the CEO and Creative director of Bird's Eye View (BEV).
It was a very interesting event, and Rachel told us about the BEV test and that most of the films directed by men do not pass this test:
(1) Are there two or more women in the film?
(2) If there are, do they have a name?
(3) If they do, do they talk to each other?
(4) and if they do, do they talk about something other than men!
Then a slideshow of posters of films were shown that did not pass this test, all directed by men of course, so we get the picture!
One did pass the test and it was Toy Story which she loves!

Re: Made in Dagenham
My skin therapist friend took me - I only went to see Please Give, and it turned out to be a fantastic event, free lunch and refreshments morning and afternoon, mingle with other skin therapists
, and even left with a goody bag with Dermologica skin care goodies!

Re: Made in Dagenham
When is the flippin' premiere for this film? The competitions can't agree, they say 20th or 21st September or 1st October. I wish they'd make their mind up!

General release on 1st October. I think the correct date for the premiere is 20th September but don't quote me.Beate wrote:When is the flippin' premiere for this film? The competitions can't agree, they say 20th or 21st September or 1st October. I wish they'd make their mind up!

Yes the premiere is the 20th Sept. I remember posting some premiere comps for this and the majority came up as 20th Sept. I also remember an article on it...
