An Idiot Abroad

Starring: Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Karl Pilkington, Luke Campbell.

Plot: having never seen any of them with his own eyes. They’ve thrown down the gauntlet to send him around the globe to force him out of his comfort zone. Stephen wants the experience to broaden Karl’s mind and change his outlook on the world. Ricky wants Karl to hate every minute of it for his own amusement.

Dispatched on what many would term a journey of a lifetime, the ‘little Englander’ will be putting his misgivings to one side as Karl finds out for himself what the fuss is about. He will travel to the Great Wall of China, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Petra in Jordan, Machu Picchu in Peru, Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Taj Mahal in India and the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Meanwhile Gervais and Merchant will be keeping a watchful eye from London, monitoring every step of Pilkington’s journey. The conclusion of the series will see the weary traveler returning home to report on his findings.

Karl commented: “I can’t wait to get started. Not ‘cos I’m excited but ‘cos the sooner we start the sooner it will be over. The fact the nurse gave me an injection that protects me from dirty chimps put a dampener on the whole thing. I don’t think Ross Kemp has to have that injection.”

Seems to me this is too forced. Although documentary style, I honestly think this Karl guy is just acting like a dimwit.

Loved the preview show, it's nice to have something good from a UK channel to wait for someone to put online for me cos I'm not wasting money on Sky.
Stephen, Ricky and Karl are of much great amusement to me, so this is just right up my alley.

I seem to remember that when we went there for the Pacific screening we were kept waiting until ages after the published start time for it to begin. Also remember they are showing 2 episodes of this series so you will be well in time for the second one.

Maybe we'll be listening to the opening song for this show about 50 times before the screening. That'll be fun.

Just watched this at The Lowry in Salford only about 100 people there when it would hold about 500. The 2 Producers/ Directors gave us a talk about what the documentary was about and the thoughts behind it, 10 of us won a book about the series - I was one of the lucky ones :D (thank you a_person for getting the tickets for me - I almost forgot what name I'd used  )
It was really funny and Karl is such a likeable character, I didn't think that it would really be my thing but that's what previews are all about and I was pleasantly surprised. Must admit Ricky Gervais' laugh did irritate me.

Ooh forgot to mention the goody bags, I have just 2 Sky mugs not 12 like Beate :shifty:
