Hereafter

Sorry I am not very techie, don't know how to post an actual trailer, but this is the link for it:

The first half of the trailer looked too unbreakable/sixth sense, but 2nd half looks interesting, Boxing Day Tsunami? London 7/7?
Looks very commercial by Clint Eastwood's standards, should be interesting

I went to see this today. I’d seen a trailer for it at one of the films I had been to earlier this week and I thought it looked promising. Clint Eastwood was directing it and I couldn’t remember ever seeing anything with Matt Damon in, that I didn’t really like. Until now that is……..

Having said that, Damon’s own performance in the film was pretty sound really, leaving aside his character's inherent blandness. Cécile De France was good too, and especially pleasant from a visual perspective. ;)

However, the film was let down really badly by the “twin boys, drugged up single mother, and social services” element of the storyline. It did not seem credible, as certain parts of the acting (especially early on, by the boys, sadly) was third rate woodenly appalling.

Everyone in this segment of the story seemed like they had been taking Cockney accent lessons from the Dick Van Dyke My Fair Lady Academy of Speech. “Cor Blimey Guv’nor, what a palaver!”

That combined with the feel that the film dragged badly, before the various disparate elements were eventually brought together in the conclusion, sort of killed it for me. It was about half to three quarters of an hour too long.

Don’t get me wrong certain elements were very good, especially the first 15 minutes or so, but overall it didn’t cut the mustard.

I so much wanted to like this, but I’m afraid I didn’t very much. Obviously, I didn't p*y but it still felt more of a curse than a gift.

A disappointing 6 out of 10. :(

I read lots of disappointing reviews on this one, both online and in papers. Wouldn't want to watch this.

I've been so keen on watching this film, shame there's been no free previews, no competitions really and worst no buzz...

I had also been looking forward to this and had hoped to see it today. In the event I couldn't fit two films in as they were both long ones, and having checked the latest reviews, I opted for "Barney's Version" instead. It's disappointing to hear that this film doesn't live up to its promise but life's too short...

I went to see this earlier today. After all, Matt Damon is the lead male, and Clint Eastwood the director. I respect Clint Eastwood as a director, so had fairly high expectations of the film, even though this subject matter did not sit too easily with me.

The opening sequence of the film was gripping and I felt that there was a lot to come, but sadly it soon became apparent that was not to happen. There were several different stories developing throughout the film and I found that I did not engage with the characters at all. There was too much going on, and the interweaving of the stories became too contrived for me.

Overall, I came out of the cinema today feeling disappointed. This film could have, and should have, been much better.

Well, went to saw this yesterday and missed the opening 15 minutes or so. I could ascertain what had happened having seen the trailers, but was still really disappointed to miss it, especially since it was apparently the best part of the film. However, as the film draaaaaaaggggged on, I began to regret missing those first few minutes less and less.

The problem with this film is that it's just boring. A bunch of things happen but the surface is only just scratched on each of those. I felt it was really cheap to use a terror attack as a plot device. Matt Damon's character isn't developed at all and is actually, somehow, more of a supporting role. The issue with his brother could have been developed and built into an interesting conflict. His relationship with Bryce Dallas Howard's character could have done more than just totally fizzled out after spending way too long focusing on them spoon-feeding one another.

The film fails at building any kind of emotional connection with the audience, which is acually impressive, given the heavy subject matter. There's no passion in the character portrayal and it shows. The dialogue certainly doesn't help matters as it's poorly constructed and subtle as a sledgehammer.

I really wanted this to be the good film it appeared to be from the trailers, but it's no more than all those interesting scenes from said trainers strung together by bland and plodding filler. 5/10 from me.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I went to see this yesterday after a week off in not so sunny Portugal and was thoroughly looking forward to it. Sat down, watch the opening sequence and thought wow what a feast for the eyes, where is this story taking us? how exciting???? Wrong!!!!
3 and half years later (or so it seemed) I was bored witless and spent most of my time watching how bored those around me were too, I remember half way through wondering how they were going to get the stories to connect and when they did I thought it was lazy and implausible. very poor 3/10 for opening sequence only
