Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I'm glad I checked this thread, was looking forward to a comedy Friday and wouldn't have known any different otherwise. Thankfully I just made it this evening and glad I did, had to go on my own due to my friend expecting it to be on Friday, but figured that at least if I got picked on no one would know me to then recall the story at various embarrassing junctures in the future!
Was very entertaining and quite intimate, good mix of comedians though not a lot of material variety, I'm sure some of the gags weren't for everyone. Wasn't that sold on Alex Zane though, but Jarred Christmas made a good compere. Long one but didn't feel it. Nice to have an unexpected funny Thursday.

I'd like to get tickets to the Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables at the O2 on 3 October. Do you think I should suggest it to SFF?

Showgirl Within starts at 7pm tonight and not 8pm
Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I imagine it's very unlikely!!!. I was in shock when realised that tickets to see the same concert in vue via sat link which were on sale in my local vue cinema at 15 pounds per ticket are now completely SOLD OUT, and this is for a biggest screen in the local cinema (not empire screen 1, but still... )... I did manage to get 2 tickets (NOT brilliant seats!) for the local vue about 3 weeks ago and already! missed out on premier seats and back rowsBeate wrote:I'd like to get tickets to the Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables at the O2 on 3 October. So check your local vue for Sunday 3.10.10 7pm and if any tickets still there and you want to see it - grab it!

About Onassis
Aristotle Onassis was a millionaire at 25 and became one of the world's richest men.
This new play looks at the last five years of the millionaire's life: the relationships between Onassis, his lover Maria Callas, his wife Jackie Kennedy, and his long running feud with the Kennedy family and the American establishment.
Based on material from Peter Evans's book Nemesis, Onassis looks at one man's voracious appetite for sex, money and power. And how those with great wealth and political influence can live their lives detached from the moral code and realities of ordinary people.
An explosive new play by Martin Sherman, Onassis was first performed to great acclaim at Chichester's Minerva Theatre. It now comes to London's West End, running at the Novello Theatre for a strictly limited season.
The Cast of Onassis in London
Robert Lindsay, who created the title role in Onassis when the play premiered in Chichester in 2008, leads the cast as Aristotle.
Lindsay was last seen in London in The Entertainer at the Old Vic. The two-times Laurence Olivier Award-winning actor's other stage credits include Oliver!, Me And My Girl and Richard III. He is also well-known for his television work including the BBC sitcom My Family.
Lindsay is joined by London stage regulars Lydia Leonard as Jackie Kennedy and Anna Francolini as Maria Callas. The cast also includes Tom Austen, Liz Crowther, Ben Grove, Robert Hastie, John Hodgkinson, Sue Kelvin, Graeme Taylor and Gawn Grainger.
Director: Nancy Meckler
Cast: Robert Lindsay, Lydia Leonard, Anna Francolini, Tom Austen, Liz Crowther, Ben Grove, Robert Hastie, John Hodgkinson, Sue Kelvin, Graeme Taylor, Gawn Grainger
It says it's a MUST SEE

Anyone else going to the Saturday matinee of Onassis? Looks interesting. I will be sure to write a review after I've seen it. The other half is out at football all day so this will be nice for me to go to.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
My oh and I saw yesterday "The Showgirl within". At the start, I thought it was going to be boring and we would most likely leave during the break, but it turned out to be all right. Caroline O'Conner is funny and intercalated songs with some funny stories and some dancing. Wouldn't recommend p*ying to watch this, but it was certainly a nice freebie.

Well my daughter and I would have pa*d to see Caroline O'Connor in The Showgirl within. We thought she was terrific when we saw her on Monday. Great singing, dancing and she was funny! We had a great evening and everyone in the theatre seemed totally entranced with her. Charming, witty and talented! Star quality and now I want to see her in a musical.
What a nice freebie.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
the Rose theatre raised its dubious standards with a well delivered noel coward play.
I'd almost given up on Coward plays (largely because the Old Vic's last effort seemed like a cure for insomnia for me) but 'Hay Fever' showed us how its done properly.
Rather than having a set of indistinct characters (as was the case in the Vic's 'Design for Living', where the cast could all have been called Otto for all it mattered there, including the chick!) instead each character brings a distinctive, contrasting mixture to this sleepover comedy. A key to this was a well chosen cast, who were willing to milk every grimace for a laugh. After the first few jittery moments, the acting and timing picked up tremendously. Some of the older actors were impeccably funny. i'm actually half-intrigued to read the play itself. Watching this, i'm not entirely sure why the Vic's cast even turned up for 'Design' every night.
Just goes to show, good casting is just as important as good acting.
PS i'm not picking a bone with the Old Vic - it simply that their recent Coward effort is a valid contrast to the Rose's production, the difference being not acting ability, but stellar casting for each individual role. i do appreciate Vic freebies, and they do get it right as well with their other plays!
