Re: Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, with Carey Mulligan and Michael Douglas, was No. 1 at the box office this weekend (USA).
Twenty-three years after he went to the slammer, Gordon Gekko's stock is still rising.
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, which reprises Michael Douglas' Oscar-winning role of 1987, rang up $19 million in theaters this weekend, according to studio estimates from Hollywood.com.
The film met most analysts' projections, which ran from $18 million to $23 million. The movie earned generally strong reviews, capturing recommendations from 59% of critics, according to Rottentomatoes.com.
It's hard to compare the first film to the original because of the time difference, but the franchise's stock appears healthy. When Wall Street came out, movies were $3.91 a ticket. At that price, Wall Street's debut of $4.1 million meant that about 1 million people went to see the film on opening weekend. Roughly that many people saw Money NeverSleeps on opening day.

Re: Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Well, you've probably seen the trailer, so you kow where this starts off from.
Michael Douglas is in excellent form and really plays up to his role of Gordon Gecko without hamming it to the point of ridicule.
Shia Le Beouf is not so good; I felt he was just that bit young and naive to be terribly convincing as a young Wall St trader, although Carey Mulligan was good although her charachter was, I felt underused.
The cameo with Charlie Sheen was an amusing aside to the film.
Basically it's not as good as the original, some of the cuts and retakes look just that and it just doesn't gel as a whole.
Still, I enjoyed it.
7/10 for entertaining me!

Just seen this at a very packed Wimbledon. Well I must say it was slow and got lost a bit but it caught my interest at the end. Wish it was a tad shorter. 6/10

I also saw this at Wimbledon. I don't think the romantic subplot served much to the general frame of the story, but it kept me interested in parts. 6/10

Re: Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
I was at Wimbledon too - get those people coming in pretty late and wandering around looking for seats! I sadly dozed off during this, it was only my phone vibrating in my pocket that got me awake again. I'd not seen the first film
don't understand money things so it was a bit hard for me to get involved. Shia was far too young for the part I thought, and Carey for me didn't seem suited to the role. Especially as I'd just watched An Education over the weekend and thought she was fabulous.
I've just skyplused Wall Street so will catch that when I get a chance

Re: Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Given the current economic climate and the fragility of the money markets what better time to put out a film like this one. I thought it was really excellent. Quite a long film at approximately 2hrs and 5 or 10 mins or so, but for me it never seemed slow or dragging. I was glued from the off and the time flew by.
Great acting as you would expect from Douglas. Shia LaBeouf was really good too, which quite surprised me as he hasn't always been great in everything I've seen him in. Some nice performances too from the supporting cast members, in particular the actress playing Jacob's mum and numerous actors playing characters from the finance and banking communities.
Loved the music score too, especially the David Byrne and Talking Heads related stuff.
9 out of 10 from me for this. Make sure you go and see it if you get the chance!

Absolutely loved this! Saw the original movie last week, so it was great to see some of the original cast make cameos. Really good to see the current economic climate represented truthfully.

Re: Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
I saw this last night at Surrey Quays, the cinema was practically full. I thought the film was ok, but a bit slow and way too long. Shia was good, but did look a bit young to play that role. I haven't seen the first film but will watch it now to see if its any better than this.
6/10.
