If you rated Tamara Drewe/Made in Dagenham/Last Excorcism/Going the Distance ... then you'll probably have hated this film.
Thankfully, Mr. Nice is Brit film-making returning to the pre 'let's keep it safe' era.
Good start - flatlined a bit in the middle (as they all do) - even better final third with some clever/subtle stuff that was refreshing to watch.
Lead actor deserves some kind of award and as far as the use of old footage - get a life folks, this ain't no Hollywood billion dollar spend - what's the alternative - seeing the same half dozen 60s cars appearing in multiple street scenes - go and watch Heartbeat if you prefer that approach.
Sorry for rant, but I was beginning to despair about UK cinema - Mr Nice is definitely heading in the right direction.

I second the point about the cars. Nothing dafter than seeing the same cars going past over and over again. The Concorde was a good touch as well.
Rhys Iffans looked like himself playing a schoolboy which I thought was a bit far fetched, but the transformation into Howard Marks made him hardly recognisable. A good old low budget UK film.

Cineworld Unlimited is cheating! ;-)
Sometimes I sits and thinks....and sometimes I just sits.

Actually, either just use the stock footage to open up (Made In Dagenham did that) or don't do it at all, if you can't do it well, and you use it constantly it's either a fault of the tech or a stylistic idea that is poorly realised.

Wow - Mr Nice, what can I say?
Well for a start it was my most favourite film of........errmm............. the day, actually.
Yes, I know it is hard to believe, but I actually saw two other films today that I liked even less than this one.
Parts of it reminded me of the classic "Withnail and I" - but I must stress that I really enjoyed that one. This was dull and uninspired.
A disappointing and probably overgenerous 6 out of 10 from me for this.
Hope things pick up again soon.
