Krapp's Last Tape
Following his outstanding performances in Endgame and Eh Joe, Michael Gambon returns to the West End Stage in Beckett's classic one-man show, Krapp's Last Tape.
Gambon received huge acclaim following his performance in the role of Krapp at the Gate Theatre Dublin earlier this year.
Every year on his birthday self-absorbed Krapp sits down to record his memories from the past year. But on his 69th birthday he takes a step further into the past. Listening to his old recordings he soon stumbles upon a single tender memory from long ago that sparks his growing regret as he starts to question whether his present lives up to his past.
Tonight at 7pm and 8.15pm

KINGS PLACE
ALFRED an opera by ARNE
Thursday and Saturday
Written as a Masque and a drama for music this is quite a unique piece, embrace this opportunity to see such a performance
Thomas Arne Composer
Alfred, King of England (masque, includes 'Rule Britannia')
The Classical Opera Company's exploration of Arne's work features two concert performances of Alfred, tonight and on Saturday (9 Oct). Written in 1740 Alfred was described variously as ?a masque', a drama for music' and an English opera'.
An outstanding young cast includes Sarah-Jane Brandon, Mary Bevan, Andrew Radley and Thomas Hobbs. Ian Page conducts young musicians from the company's dynamic period-instrument orchestra.
The Classical Opera Company was founded in 1997 by conductor Ian Page to specialise in the music of Mozart and his contemporaries, and its work ranges from
full-scale opera productions to intimate recitals. It appears regularly at such venues as the Barbican, Sadler's Wells and Wigmore Hall, and in December it presents its third Kings Place residency, 'Handel in Italy', which features six of Handel's greatest Italian cantatas, the Dixit Dominus and two performances of Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno.
The company has developed an outstanding reputation for the high quality of its performances, for its innovative and imaginative programming and for its ability to discover and nurture world-class young artists. Singers who have worked with the company at a formative stage of their career have included include Emma Bell, Sophie Bevan, Rebecca Bottone, Allan Clayton, Lucy Crowe, Jacques Imbrailo, Andrew Kennedy, Anna Leese and Sally Matthews

Artaxerzes
Friday night at Kings Place
This is an insight evening for opera afficiardos!
To mark the launch of the Classical Opera Company?s new recording of Artaxerxes on Linn Records, conductor Ian Page and popular broadcaster and musicologist Roderick Swanston discuss Thomas Arne?s most successful opera.
Further contributors include the Royal Opera?s Director of Opera, Elaine Padmore, and award-winning soprano Elizabeth Watts, who sings the role of Mandane on the recording. The evening is punctuated by excerpts from the recording, and there will be a signing session in the foyer afterwards
In 1791, Joseph Haydn, then working in London, went to a performance of Thomas Arne's opera Artaxerxes. He was astonished by it. He had "no idea", he is on record as saying, "that we had such an opera in the English language". That an English-born composer might have produced one of the great operas was difficult for Haydn to imagine: he was unaware of the huge popularity of Arne's masques, operas and songs, which audiences had flocked to see only a few decades previously.
Premiered in 1762, Artaxerxes was regarded as one of Arne's masterpieces. By the turn of the 19th century, every British music lover was familiar with it,
