Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread

I'm now back from the Les Mis Concert in the vue IT WAS SUPERB!!!
Even the fact that the sound was a bit behind the picture in places (because of sat link?) didn't spoil it for us!
No spare seats in the vue and no spare seats in O2 (seemed like it!) - it was totally worth it!

I went to see Onassis on Friday night and I quite enjoyed it. There were bits in the middle that were a little slow and the whole thing lacked a wow factor, but I did feel sorry for Aristotle Onassis by the end and he cut a very sad figure in the midst of the waves in the last scene. I actually enjoyed the greek music and dancing, it was really relaxing. 7/10
I also went to Just the Tonic that night at the Leicester Sq theatre, most of the stand up comedians were on top form, but the best of all was Nina Conti, the ventriloquist, she was just oh-so-funny in a clever kind of way. I had wanted to see her at the Soho theatre before anyway, so this was a pleasant surprise to get free tickets to see her. My friend and I both laughed non-stop so definitely a 8/10 for the overall show (and even higher marks for Nina)

I went on my first visit to the theatre this evening to see Onassis - so this is my first post! I thoroughly enjoyed the play once it got going. It was a little slow at the beginning and Robert Lindsay "lost" his greek accent every now and again. The actress that played Maria Callas was excellent.
A very enjoyable evening.

I went to Just The Tonic at the Leicester Square Theatre last night. There were four comedians on the bill.
The compere (David Ward) talked to lots of people in the audience and got lots of laughs from their answers to his questions. He wasn't mean or offensive and it was funny, but it was quite easy and lazy humour and he didn't really have an act. We deliberately sat right at the back out of view! We all liked him whenever he came back on stage.
The second act (Dave Longley) told lots of 'jokes' about poo, wee, farts, anal sex (and sometimes all of these things at once). This was precisely the kind of stuff that I'd told my other half I didn't want to hear, so I was disheartened, fed up and cheesed off.
Thankfully I enjoyed the third comedian (Will Smith) a lot. He talked about being a sensitive bloke with a posh accent, and all the strife this caused him. I could relate to much more of what he was saying, and he didn't rely on cheap toilet humour or swear words. I'm a sensitive and sheltered soul you see!
Finally, Terry Alderton. My companions all thought he was fantastic. I just didn't really get it. He reminded me of Harry Hill a bit with different characters and voices (I can't stand Harry Hill) but everyone else thought he was very original and they loved it. He was certainly different, but I can't say I found it very funny.
All in all it was something different to go to a comedy show, and a variety of acts means there's a good chance you'll find something you like. The theatre was only about 40% full and there seems to be SFF tickets available every weekend. The line up will be different but it's worth giving it a go.

Don't worry cwl, I completely relate. Even though I swear abit, I don't find those sort of jokes remotely funny or the ones were they pick on people in the audience. The dirty ones (especially about poo, urine etc) are the ones that I think people make when they're pretending they're a comedian, when in reality, they are not.

I saw her at Just the Tonic too at the one I went to a few months back. My OH and I thought she was definitely the highlight of the evening, oh, so funny in a very original way, and so entertaining too!

I don't know what it is with tomorrow, there are at least three films and one concert I could be going to now but I am sticking with The Ivy, LOL.
