Anyone else see the article today in the Metro, market research companies might start spying on us in the cinema and recording our facial expressions!!!

What kind of expressions would you do?

Those who have been disturbed by the use of mobiles/other inconsiderate behaviour in the cinema might care to read this gob-smacking post from Whatsonstage:

"Bad behaviour to cap all bad behaviour yesterday at the National. In the 2nd Act of Men Shall Weep a woman a few rows in front of us hit (yes, hit) two members of the public and an usher who had asked her to switch off her phone - it having gone off twice. There were audible gasps from everyone who saw it. The whole thing was astonishing. Once the curtain call was done, the whole thing began again and as we left, security and two more ushers were trying to calm her down as she screamed obscenities and lashed out physically at those around her. Jaw-dropping."

You see, it could be worse...

Wow, I found the thread and it's 41 pages long about bad behaviour in the theatre!
Looks like even p*ying enormous sums of money for a play doesn't make people behave.

So has anyone tried to get to the DLR from Bank?

I decide to take mum to see Mama Mia last Sunday, as a nice treat! Unfortunately, she does not like doing anything as she has dementia. Anyway, planned to leave plenty of time as it takes her a very long time to get anywhere.

Collected her at 11.00am for the 1pm showing at West India Quay. As usual mum didn't want to budge, but eventually got her washed and dressed. Took the bus to Bank and it would be a 10 minutes ride on the DLR, the best and easiest route, and we would be at the cinema pretty early, so I thought!

At Bank, a big sign says entrance to DLR is from Monument Station. So off we go to Monument Station, all the while mum does not want to budge (bless her - she didn't understand what was going on!), so it was like walking with a ton of bricks on my arm! At Monument Station, the gates are closed and the LT staff says it is only for peak hours and apparently the sign says so at Bank and told me to check when I got back! So back we go to Bank, with mum complaining and refusing to walk. Finally, get back and the sign definitely does not say peak!



Well it was now 12.15pm, no other choice so down we went anyway, went round and round the subway, before finding the entrance to station, this is fine but it is like carrying a 150lb sack of potatoes around with me, as mum just won't budge, as I help her walk! If she was a child, I would have picked her up! :0)

Down the escalators we went, along a corridor, more stairs, along I think the Central Line platform, more escalators but they do not work, more corridors, along the Northern line platform, more stairs, another corridor and finally the DLR, after 20 minutes of coaxing the "sack of potatoes" (sorry mum!) to move. The platform was packed but managed to move along platform as short train (with the "sack of potatoes", still won't budge!) to get on.

To cut a long story short, after more coaxing, and a broken elastic in her panties and in her trousers (hahaha, it's like a comedy, why do these things happen when you are in a hurry, and it was raining), we finally arrived at the cinema with 10 minutes to spare, as luck would have it, finally get some luck, we managed to get some good seats, and we both enjoyed the film!!

However, did not think the day would get any worst after a good film, after half an hour of extremely sloooooooow walking to Canary Wharf station, decided not to go back to Bank as too traumatic, on reaching the ticket gates, I realised our travel cards had fallen out of my pocket at the cinema, even though I checked to make sure that I had got everything! Luckily, the boy at the cinema remembered me and they did find the travelcards! So all ended well.

However, I have complained to LT for the misleading sign! It caused untold frustration and inconvenience, waste of time and energy, and unnecessary walking, which is extra bad for an elderly lady who has difficulty walking.

Where on earth did you come from to access Bank? It is easily accessible and I never had a problem yet and I do it every day! Access from the Northern Line is especially easy so if you are in the first or last carriage, the stairs are right there! Yes, there is an entrance to DLR from Monument but it's a big walk! Just follow the Northern Line signs next time.

Yeah, I realised afterwards it is better to get to DLR via the Northern Line, but that day I came from the street, hoping to save my mum a long walk, we got the bus there. So a big mistake!

Poor you pxc... I always hate Bank station, it's a bit of a nightmare if you don't use it regularly as there are so many exits and twists and turns.

Yeah, simpler if you are already below ground! I always get lost coming in from the street, and it is right by the Royal Exchange where I often meet friends who work in the City. But what I am annoyed about is the misleading sign! If I did not see the sign, I would not have had a walk up to Monument and back, in the rain, I forgot to mention, and especially I allowed so much time, so I did not need to rush. Grrrr!!
