I thought it was pretty standard fare but no less entertaining for that and really, just the thing for a cold, dark November evening. My screening was only half-full at best and that was after about 50% of the audience had come in late - the film started late, too - why? 7.5/10 from me and I'm glad I dragged myself out.

Must say, feeling poorly, I didn't mind the extra warmth from the back all that much and it was only in the last half hour but SunnySaver moved seats as she could smell burning!
Smell burning!! That's an understatement. It was when Denzel was running along the train pulling the brakes. I half thought it was some new cinema technique... where you could smell what was being shown on the film, ie sparks flying, hence burning smell!!

It got sooo hot too, but we were right under the air con unit. Note to self: don't sit in that corner again!

Nice to meet ejwrank!

I'd give the film 7/7.5 out of 10. I love Denzil, but hasn't he put on a bit of weight?

Oh, and I got an email off American Express today giving codes for the film!

I wasn't expecting much from this but thought it was actually pretty good. It maintained the tension throughout and held my interest and the three leads were all excellent. The characters were a little underdeveloped but they did the best with what they had. I agree about Chris Pine being easy on the eye, and Rosario too. I also fell in love with Denzel all over again. I was pleased that the two men were pretty equal throughout actually - I was expecting it to be a bit Denzel-heavy but Pine pretty much held his own too, so that's a testament to him. I'd give it a 7 I think, all things considered.

The only thing that was unstoppable were my yawns.
The erratic fast cutting didn't help drive this film in any direction. I know it's formulaic, mindless nonsense, but I never felt the thrill of the impending situation.

Unfortunately for me it was one of the dullest films of the year.

Got tickets for this film @ The Lowry, I couldnt believe how it is based on a true story!! It was so fake, there is a part in it where the police get a load of machine guns to shoot an emergency stop button on the train which is situated above the trains fuel tanks, the train is going about 60/70mph and as it goes past them " VeryFast" they miss and just keep shooting, so they are just shooting the train for the fun off it hahaha. There were a few nail biting moments but I can now see why they are giving away so many free tickets. I would give this film 6/10 If you didnt get tickets to see it, probably best to wait untill its about £3 to b*y and watch at home.

I too wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised from this, thought it was somewhat far fetched seeing it was based on a true story!
On saying that, I was tensed throughout the whole of the movie...never thought that I woud be so gripped by trains...and Chris Pine :))
I would say 7 out of 10,

It's loosely based on the 'Crazy Eights' incident back in 2001. But for me it's simply a piece of fine cinematic entertainment, and thus artistic license is allowed.....surely!

Awesome... I wasn't expecting much either and wondered how they'd stretch the film out for 1.5hrs, and neither did we know anything about the story (apparently it's based on true events - quite how much not sure) but it was really good... I was pleasantly surprised - Gripping, edge of seat film... Girlfriend loved it also...

p.s. Denzel's looking old...

It could have used less trains.

In all seriousness, though, I liked this a lot more than I thought I would going in. It had good pacing a good performances and Rosario Dawson, who is dreamy ;) My major qualm was the "news" reporting and how silly it was. Especially the part about the employee responsible who would be held to account, accompanied by a big photo of dopey looking Dewey. The "news" wouldn't really get any better than that and felt terribly fake throughout, which I think hindered a story that was otherwise delivered well. I think 7/10 is fair.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Here's a link to an account of the true events the film was 'inspired' by
