The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo / The Girl who Played with F
Re: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Played with Fire Double
Odean Norwich played both in the correct order, with a minimal break, enough time to use the ladies room, and p*rchase goodiesfrom the selection the ushers brought in. Excellent treat, two fantastic movies in one hit, I would recommend reading the books first though because some bits are missed out or not really expanded on properly which, in my opinion, add to the tale. Good times.

Re: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Played with Fire Double
I saw these today at a surprisingly empty (maybe one quarter full) Newcastle Empire.
I haven't got around to reading any of the books yet, so I can't make any comparisons or judgements on the allegation that the films aren't as good or that they miss out too much detail. At 2 and a half hours for the first film, and around 2 hoursish for the second it is difficult to understand how much more detail could be added or would be beneficial without making the films way too long.
I have seen both films before, the first one on DVD and the second one at the cinema. I enjoyed them enormously the first time and they still hadn't lost any of their appeal at this second viewing.
I loved the complex Lisbeth Salander character and her journalist friend Mikael Blomkvist. There were exceptionally fine performances from Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth and Michael Nyqvist as Mikael, but the rest of the cast were really good too in both films. I do find it rather strange that they were both undertaken by different directors, and I guess that is the reason why they each have a slightly different feel.
Watching both back to back (with only a 20 mins break) was quite a marathon at a smidge under 5 hours, but I've become used to this and more at my local mid week Cineworld (bless them) sponsored jaunts.
The Girl W... storyline is compelling and action packed. At times full-on horrifically and brutally gruesome, at others very sad and touching and on occasion mildly humourous too.
I'd rate these films at 9 out of 10 apiece, and can't wait to see the Hornets Nest one in a week or so. Come on let's have some free screenings for this and please target some for the North East, otherwise I'll have to use more of my "competition win" Cineworld Tickets.

Re: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Played with Fire Double
Saw these at a 40% full and comfy Kingston Odeon. Thankfully they played the films in the right order with only a 15 minute break between films. Really enjoyed the girl with the dragon tattoo, but although I also enjoyed the Girl who played with fire I felt it was a little too far fetched and it wasn't as credible as the first film. Glad I saw them one after the other as it made the 2nd film easier. Only downside, some scenes are really graphic.
Anyway, brilliant to see both free on the big screen as missed these when they were out.
Tattoo 8/10
Fire 7/10

Re: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Played with Fire Double
Saw these today in a fairly empty Manchester.
Cinema doors only opened at 10.30 and film had already started when we got into the screen. Luckily I'd recently started the audiobook so knew I hadn't missed much. Hard to judge as a whole, but the start of the first film actually seemed a lot tighter and pacier than the book.
The films themselves were very good, especially the first one which had a lot stronger storyline.
I will interested to see the 3rd film and also what David Fincher does with the remake.

Re: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Played with Fire Double
Biggins! Did this start earlier than 10.30? I snuck in at 10.30 dead and had to sit down front. I had considered doing what you did and going to Grease as I had seen the second film already, but a) "sing-a-long" put me off, b) I was quite comfortable where I was and also wanted to see if the second part was made any better having then seen the first part - I saw The Girl Who Played with Fire as a freebie in isolation and really enjoyed it. Or c) leave after first film. Like I say I was well comfy wher I was and I knew it was a typical Novmber day weather wise outside. So glad I sat through both - 5 1/2 hours!! Phew!biggins wrote:At Cineworld this morning and saw The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in screen 12 and then quickly ran across to screen 9 for Sing-a-Long Grease with our free diet coke. Two entirely different films but enjoyed both of them equally. Excellent free day out.
Anyone know if we are getting Part 3 as a freebie?

Re: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Played with Fire Double
Went away to Oxford for the weekend and got tickets at the Showcase Reading. Got shown to the wrong cinema first! sat there for half an hour watching children coming in, thought that was a bit odd. Then The titles for Unstoppable came on - we left. as did another couple. explaining the mix up was a nightmare to begin with but the guy from the other couple really was upset. We missed about 15 mins of the The girl w. Boy was it cold in the cinema, it felt as if we were in the snow as well as the plot! Only 31 in the cinema - the people behind had counted.
Had read the book and they had left out/ re arranged a bit (a lot) of the story but I guess the film would have been longer and more complicated still. Agree that scenes are quite graphic and difficult to watch at times. Haven't read The Girl WP but really want to see what they left out/altered this time.
9/10 The girl with the dragon tatoo
8/10 The girl who played with fire

Re: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Played with Fire Double
The staff didn't open the front doors to the cinema until 10.20am but the film started sharp on the dot on my watch at 10.30am. We got our diet coke on the way in with our voucher so we didn't have to queue for it before going over to see Grease - so it saved time. Sing a long was good fun. A lot of people kept going out to the toilet when the singing parts were on - must have been all that diet coke they had drunk - or perhaps they heard me singing.stuartboy wrote:Biggins! Re: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo / The Girl who Played wi
I went to see the double bill in Cineworld - Edinburgh and I have to say I was very impressed with the movies. They flow really well and they are really well performed. Very realistic! I really enjoyed them, despite having a couple of scenes which were quite difficult to watch (I don´t want to spoil them for others so I won´t give details!). I definitely recommend them!!

Turned up to see this sunday at Showcase Bristol, Avonmeads, only to be told the tickets were incorrect and it was showing at Showcase Cinema du Lux, good 15 minute car ride at the best of times but centre was shut off due to Remembranance Service and no free parking.......... boo didn't get to see it.
