Re: TRON: Legacy
Made a trek to Cwbran to see this in the Vue, about 90% full. Which was a very good turnout on a very cold night.
I am a fan of the original Tron and as others have said, the characters were better. I did cringe at the dialogue - at least bridges didn't say 'far out man'. Daft punk were brilliant but thought Michael Sheen was hamming for Wales in the bar sequence.
I thought the Cora(? the one dressed in black) character had a similar feel to that of the girl in the fifth element film, just change of hair colour.
Trying to explain the 'plot' to OH was quick for a change. Wanted so much to like this film but it have to give it 5/10

Re: TRON: Legacy
They really think they have lots of fans out there! They are doing midnight preview screenings for this...
(this coming after 23 min preview footage like Avatar. Does Disney think they have an Avatar on their hands???)

Re: TRON: Legacy
Of course there are a lot of fans, thats why there is a sequel. Admittedly, they would probably all be my age group geeks who had spectrum and commodore computers worshiping the original movie that spoke to us like we were normal people and that the rest of the world was sad and just didnt get it
I mean it was quite ahead of its time, you know... radical, dude and far out man! Opening midnight is like attending a midnight mass, its a religiuous event for fans.
Talking of Bridge's jive talk, he's stuck in time in this grid so his language wouldnt evolve as much as the outside world. Its how he spoke in the original and I like when he says far out man, he's the dude, I wanna hear him say it!
Now excuse me while I recite my daily prayers
Our Clive Sinclair, Hallow be thy name...

Re: TRON: Legacy
Mr I Burton
Managing Director
Wrigley UK
Dear Ian Burton,
My wife and I were both delighted when we each won a competition sponsored by Wrigley and marketed through DazedDigital for a pair of complimentary tickets to see TRON Legacy at the Silverlink Odeon on 13th December.
We were really looking forward to the prospect of a rare family night out with our two teenage children to see a great movie, which was so new that it was not even on general release yet.
We arrived at the cinema well before the screen opening time of 6:00 pm, because we were so looking forward to see the film. Unfortunately, we were told that there was a minor problem and the film would be starting slightly later that envisaged. This apparently was due to a technical problem with loading the digital copy of the film onto the cinema hard drive. The upshot being that there would be a delay of between 30 minutes to about an hour. I specifically asked (on two separate occassions) if they would definitely be showing the film that night and was told that they definitely would.
We decided we would wait, and were kindly offered complimentary drinks in the bar whilst we waited. Unfortunately this offer was only extended to the over 18s in our party as the Odeon manager, when asked, would not sanction a complimentary soft drink for my children which I thought was a little mean in the circumstances. Never mind, we b*ght our childrens’ drinks for them, and eventually more for ourselves, and waited ……and waited.
After an hour and 40 minutes had passed, at around 7:30 the manager announced that they could not show the film after all as it still had not been loaded.
We had driven a round trip of some 20 miles to specifically attend this screening and spent a considerable amount of money in the Odeon on drinks and snacks whilst fruitlessly waiting for the film to start.
As compensation, we were offered one free Odeon Guest pass for each member of our party. Unfortunately the terms and conditions on the ticket do not allow viewing of any newly released film until it has been out for three weeks. Consequently, there was nothing showing that evening that our tickets were valid for, that we had not already seen. We returned home very disappointed and frankly quite annoyed as my family’s entire evening had been wasted and completely ruined.
To my mind the offer of 4 free tickets (one each) to see our choice of a second rate, in excess of three week old, film seems a little lacking in imagination and hardly seems like adequate or fair compensation for our completely ruined evening and all the additional expense we had incurred b*ying food and drinks whilst we were kept waiting.
I was interested to read the following on the Wrigley website:
“Our unique culture and values are the common thread that connects our associates in every corner of the world and guide our behaviour both internally and externally with our consumers, partners, distributors, retailers and the community around us.”
· We treat each other with trust, dignity, and respect
· We expect every associate to demonstrate leadership and be accountable
· We demand of ourselves high standards of ethical behaviour
· We promote accountability by doing what we say we will do and taking ownership for results."
I am afraid that both my family and I did not feel we experienced any of those values during our Wrigley’s competition win evening at the Silverlink Odeon, but we did want to allow you the opportunity to comment.
Kind regards,
Managing Director

Yes, I've fired off tailored versions of that email to Wrigleys UK, Dazed Digital and the Odeon Customer Services department. I'll let you know if anyone responds.

Sorry to read about this, Preston1990 - what a shambles!
Re: TRON: Legacy
Great letter and good that you sent copies to a variety of places. I sometimes put on the bottom of my complaints letters cc: Guardian Consumer Affairs Editor, mainly so I feel better.
Hope you get some proper compensation. Fancy giving tickets to movies but stipulating they must have been released three weeks previous. And not to give your kids a soft drink each was really mean. Good luck and I feel sure you'll get some result with your excellent letter.
