Fantastic film, a few tears, a few laughs. Although, I did think at the begining, that Gav and Stacey were going to pop out !

Funny that in the London Sky screening for Tron: Legacy they showed it on the big Screen 7 and there's were lots of people and I was precisely thinking how come there are so many people getting in??

No snow in Manchester at the moment and although Manchester United were playing at home the kick off was 8pm so wouldn't have affected the traffic. I thinks its because it was a Sky screening and no-one could get tickets.

Probably a combination of Man Utd game and Kings of Leon at the arena.

As for the film it was very, very good. Main two performances were excellent individually and also the interplay between them and everyone else was pretty much perfect.
The whole film is unfussy yet classy throughout and it's also got a couple of big laughs within the drama.

Think my expectations were a bit too high though due to the oscar buzz, so will be nice to see it again to confirm if it's as good as it seemed.

A word of caution... I caught a quote in Empire, without seeing the review itself, along the lines of
"Rocky with royalty" It is not that at all, you root for Bertie and has that basic training/overcoming the odss structure, but it's a lot subtler and less Hollywoody than that and no worse for it.

yes, I did and it was very nice, and afterwards more Grolsh, and some Dutch Gouda! Lovely to see ejwrank and son (who is seeing it for the second time!). The editor of LWL came and introduced it and we had a little marketing spiel, we must go and b*y the next issue etc.

What a fab film, really, really enjoyed it. Couldn't agree more with what everyone has already said, excellently acted, well scripted, funny and touching. I really found the stuttering very painful to watch. The scene with the back of Winston Churchill was perfect but they went and spoiled it by showing Timothy Spall ! :nono: and Guy Pearce did look a tad younger than to be an older brother. 9/10

It is fitting to see this film today, 14 December, as it is his birth date, and I am glad that this film turns out to be my 100th film this year. o/

I found it quite amusing that the trailers before the film which were titled "suitable for the feature presentation" - obviously meaning the rating - couldn't have been less so for following film and the generally older audience, Tron, Gullivers Travels, Paul and Transformers 3! :D

Congratulations to prettyxcool for her 100th film and this was a great one to mark the occasion. We really enjoyed it -- son for the second time as he saw it in Nottingham 2 weeks ago. It was funny, sad and poignant. I had no problem with Timothy Spall as Churchill and Colin Firth looking older than his older brother Guy Pearce didn't bother me either. Probably it was because the film was so well made, looked so good and was so incredibly well acted that nothing was going to detract. And it was great to see so many British actors together -- enjoyed the moment when Jennifer Ehle (Mrs Logue) met Colin Firth (King George VI) -- Pride and Prejudice reunited and Claire Bloom and Anthony Andrews from Brideshead.

And hopefully Beate will now stop saying that I never like anything!

Thanks to kevinknapman for the tickets.

There were so many good things about The King's Speech when I saw it last night:

a) It was a free screening at the Odeon Silverlink - and they actually showed the film! :p

b) Having grown used to being one of the oldest viewers at most of the free screenings I attend, it gave me great pleasure to be one of the youngest on this occasion. Anyone who knows me will I'm sure find that very hard to believe, but I assure you that it is true. Could it have been anything to do with the fact that it was a Telegraph subscriber only screening? Just an observation, and no slur intended on any Telegraph readers of course. ;)

c) All joking aside, this film was brilliant on so many different levels.

There was a great cast who turned in some superb performances. CF was sublimely good. HBC was first rate too, and she came across as such a lovely, pleasant natured and supportive lady with an eye-twinkley wicked sense of humour. I know that it's like comparing chalk and cheese, but her performance in this was so much more impressive than her role as the Red Queen in Alice. Some fantastic performances too from all the other members of the cast in my book especially Geoffrey Rush, Unlike some others here, I even liked Timothy Spall's portrayal of Churchill.

The storyline was compelling and although I knew a little allready about the abdication, and the Wallis Simpson story, this showed it all in a new and more intense humane and in-depth light for me.

I will definitely be going to see this one again.

9.5 out of 10 - Excellent! :D
