Re: Snow
Baty, I'm so glad your husband is ok, it sounds like an horrendous thing to happen. Did the ice come off the lorry? can't it come out of the insurance?

Very scary, baty! Thank goodness he is safe and well. You can replace a windscreen.... God bless.baty wrote:OH had to go to Swansea on the M4. Motorway was mainly clear BUT on the way back he pulled over to let out a lorry, when a sheet of ice came off the top and smashed into the windscreen. Luckily it held but the screen is crazed and will need replacing. I have never seen him this shaken before.

Re: Snow
Thanks for the replies. Yes he's OK now. His fermentation thingy (technical term) is starting to froth so he has something else to think about. Having checked his insurance, he has £75 excess. It wont be fixed till Thursday, that's the earliest the people can come out. This is the second thing to go wrong, he got hit by an Asda delivery van last week. He was waiting in a queue and the van ran into him. The car has damage to the bumper and was to be taken away for repair this week. This has not been a good month for him!
I haven't been out since last Thursday as I am really scared of travelling in the white stuff and had turned down the offer of going out. I bet he was thankful for that, the ice hit the passenger side of the screen. I would have been more than a little hysterical I think, if I was there.
My car slid off a road several years ago and hitting a post stopped me from going over the edge and falling down the mountainside into a river. The only thing I could think of was that I hadn't done enough in my life. Been making up for that since. This forum has helped, had lost the urge to go to the cinema, the cost hadn't helped but now.....if it's within a sensible distance, then again, sometimes not, we go out and enjoy it. Merry Christmas everyone

Re: Snow
My colleague is from Zurich and rung on Saturday to say he was flying back to Zurich for Christmas on Sunday. Obviously coming from there, he's used to things being efficient come snow, shine or hail.
He's just texted me to say he couldn't fly on Sunday. He's now stuck in France on a train that has broken down.

A postal delivery today, or even any time before Xmas Day, would be nice. No delivery for us on Monday or Tuesday and it's not because there's nothing for us - our personal backlog alone would probably fill a sack and that's just the items we know about!
I read that Royal Mail were doing extra deliveries but they're not additional if you don't receive a normal one for days... and I don't care what they call it or what time it arrives - I'd just like our missing post!

Re: Snow
So far as I know, Amazon stuff just comes in the normal post, or at least, all mine always has.
Actually my Amazon order is less overdue and what I really want is the wrist support I ordered 2 weeks ago and for which I was charged 1st class post, no choice. My wrist hurts all the time (think it's RSI) and I was hoping this would help.

Re: Snow
Ms Thrifty, if you have symptons of RSI I strongly advise you see your GP and get a diagnosis. In the meantime follow proper measures to elleviate the strain, the wrist support will obviously help but you will need to adjust your routines on how you use your computer:
