i hope this doent sound offensive, but this is bit of a bore, and in no way close to the French original.

i understand its a slow burner, but casting Gladiator as a wimpy average guy doesnt work. Why would gladiator slow burn through a movie anyway? Get your gladius out and chop threw the problem! it probably didnt help that i'm a fan of the original.

i had to leave because i was falling asleep. fortunately i had to walk past another screen to leave the cinema.... so not a total loss.

Saw the movie at Shepherd's Bush. Cinema was about half full possibly because of the several screenings that took place already. On the upside I got a great seat because of it! :)

I was expecting the movie to be good after having seen the trailers and I wasn't disappointed :).

The tension build in this movie was incredible! I was at the edge of my seat for a good length of it. I can usually tell what the outcome would be in a movie like this from the tone and how it builds up, but I had no clue about this one until when we were supposed to know. The not knowing was a good break from all the predictable suspense movies Hollywood has been throwing at us lately. Certain events in the movie were a little unrealistic and Liam Neeson was greatly under-used. But Elizabeth Banks was great and Russell Crowe really delivered.

Knowing the events and outcome of the movie in advance would have taken away from much of the excitement and tension that such a movie relies on, so I'm glad I hadn't seen the French original that people have mentioned here.

Loved the way the tension built up as the film progressed and didn't stop until the end. Loved the twists in the plot and the cleverness. The opening scene was brilliant in showing the audience how capable Lara is of losing her temper, which did more than just set the stage for what was to follow. The car door scene and the sewer drain scene were similarly brilliant in the purpose they served. Definitely a great thriller. It's an 8/10 from me.

Well, I have never seen the French original but I did think that this new version was excellent. What a fantastic free film to kick 2011 off with - if they are all as good as this in the coming year then we'll be in for a memorable one filmwise.

I thought Russell Crowe was superb. The portrayal of his relationships with his wife, son and father were really sensitive and brilliantly done. The chemistry between them was there in abundance, sometimes achieved in a very understated sort of a way with just a simple look or gesture. No flowery verbal protestations of undying love here, but you never once doubted the strength of feeling between them.

I adored the way the film slowly built up the tension to fever pitch. I liked the clever twists and turns and the audience misdirection in certain parts too. As others have said already, Liam Neeson’s appearance was disappointingly brief but my what a performance he gave.

This is one film I'd definitely go to see again.

8.5 out of 10. o/

Saw it in Queensway London about 70% full. I heard it didn't do too well in America and I haven't seen it advertised much which is a shame as it was surprisingly good and better than I expected it to be o/

Saw this at Sheffield Cineworld, it was packed out hardly a spare seat anywhere. Russell Crowe was excellent and portrayed his part well but I did think it was too slow to start with until the tension built up near the end. Lots of twist in the storyline which led to the excitement but overall I was disappointed at the fact that there seemed to be loads of stuff that wasnt relevant and felt it was too long. Apart from that there was a couple sat in the row in front of us that made sooooo much noise with their popcorn we could hardly hear the film. I felt like telling them to be quiet, total disrepect for anyone else trying to enjoy the film, shame on them. I wish Cineworld would provide plastic containers for popcorn instead of very noisy paper bags. 6/10

Saw this for a second time last night, as my girl couldn't accompany me the first time I saw it last month. I still thought it was good, but of course none of the suspense is there when you know how it's going to turn out, which is maybe why people who had seen the original weren't fans of this. I have no problem with the casting of Russell Crowe in this. I think he played the part very well. If people can't see him past Gladiator, that's not really his fault. I think John Nash would slow burn his way through something, as well.

The part with the cops and the button is still ridiculous and unnecessary, no matter how many times one sees this.

I saw the film in Birmingham last night. I thought it was good but by no means great-a solid 7/10. I thought a few of the characters were under-developed and i didn't think the kid was very good. Definately worth a watch though!
