I felt all macho and I'm a girl who doesnt like boxing!

It was pretty full at Whitely's and I had a guy sitting next to me, eating apples! And even more annoying he kept on laughing really loudly and rocking the seat  this sort of put me off for the first half hour, then he calmed down a bit. HOnestly I'm such a grumpy cinema goer

Anyway I enjoyed this more than I thought I was going to, and got really involved in the story, one person even punched the air at one stage (not me I hasten to add, although I wanted to hehe). I thought the cast mainly were excellent. I didn't even recognize Christian Bale, he was amazing as was Melissa Leo who I really rate as an actress. Sadly the worst one for me, was Mark Whalberg. He just can't act in my opinion, always seems so wooden

Edit to say I'm being a bit hard on ol Marky Mark, I guess his role wasn't as showy as Bale's so he would stay in the background a bit. 8.5/10

What have you guys got against Mark Wahlberg? He was the only decent thing to look at in the film. Don't get me started on Christian Bale, I can't stand him.

Oh forgot to say we were in a much smaller screen than normal. Well, huge screen small number of seats, and was half full so probably only about 30 of us in there.

Odeon half full in Cardiff. Wasn't sure if I was going to like this but got drawn in and was rolling with the punches. Thankfully OH had picked seats way up high and no-one was really watching. hought Christian Bale was excellent, Mr MW was a bit of eyecandy even if bloodied at times.

OH wasn't impressed by the boxing and is going to dig out his old DVD's to show me difference, oh joy.....

It's worth staying for the credits when they show the 'real' brothers.

Yes, you've summed them up pretty well, elski.

I enjoyed this film much more than I thought I was going to, but it wasn't outstanding. Mark Wahlberg was good - but lightweight. Christian Bale, though not my favourite actor by a long shot, ought to receive an Oscar nomination for best Supporting Actor.

The touches of humour along the way were needed to lift the film - there was some very good dialogue. Considering that it was a film about boxing, entitled The Fighter, I didn't think that there was enough boxing in it.

However, this film does offer a study of family dysfunction, and with some strong character portrayals, will probably do well at the box office.

7/10 from me.

Saw this at Leeds, which was probably about half full.

Totally with you on this, Beate. I like Mark Wahlberg, and I thought he was good in this (although most of what I know about boxing comes from the Rocky films, and that film with Russell Crowe a few years back, which I really liked). I was squirming in my seat with Christian Bale's character, but in irritation. (Even later on.) He was OK in 3.10 to Yuma, but I cannot think of anything else...

Was totally stunned at the weights that the boxers were meant to be in the final match weigh in - 10 stone something? Was that one arm???? But I have seen that he is 5' 7'' - I always thought he was taller. I noticed the height difference between him and Christian Bale changed in a couple of scenes.

Finally, I wondered about this as a preview screening in the UK. We are meant to cheer a US fighter on against a Brit??? (I had never heard of the latter boxer, BTW.) It was not a Rocky moment.

Overall, I found this disappointing - maybe I expected too much.

BTW - Elski - liked your comment about the sisters. They irritated me as much as Christian Bale...
