My OH and I really liked this film, previewed at Cardiff on Tuesday.
Christian Bale was fabulous at depicting Dicky Ekland. From the real life footage at the end of the film it was easy to see that he had aquired an amazing likeness and had his character nailed down to a tee.
The film is as much about family dynamics as it is boxing and I hope that Bale gets recognition in the Oscars for playing this role.
As for the pack of sisters.......! They were scary beyond belief, but undeniably added a lot of humour to the film and upset to an obviously dysfunctional family. Can't say how much I have enjoyed reading the other reviews.....very entertaining.

A good 8 out of 10

I have tickets to see this on the 20th, and its the 'Times +' screening. It says I need to bring a copy with me. Does that mean I can simply b*y a copy on the day, or will it need to be a specific dates paper?

Saw 'The Fighter' earlier this week at Whiteleys with bf (and thanks to prettyxcool for my tix)!

Enjoyed the film; it flowed well at the beginning and it was entertaining. I found that it lost some momentum towards the end and became more focused on being more factual which I thought was a shame as the entertainment side of it was missing, which IMO made the film a little more enjoyable. I did like the family dynamics and the herd of sisters with the BIG hair, that really was the 80s huh?! :shifty: And it did touch on a sensitive side on what drugs can to do to a family and how denial can affect everyone. I suppose everyone too suffers (to a certain extent) the intrusion of some family members, how nosey they are and that they only want what's best etc etc.

I was not seated next to the hyena at Whiteleys (thankfully) but I did have someone sitting behind me that kept kicking my chair  then decided he needed to take a call on his mobile, and as he got up slammed his hand on my head and pulled my hair as he got up - I smacked him! His hand... Not his face, but that may have been more satisfying. He did say sorry. After I smacked him. Go figure.

Bf thought that Brad Pitt would have been better cast as the lead instead of Mark Wahlberg, as Marky Mark seemed to have difficulty with the accent and as my bf said Pitt 'can easily do an Irish accent and played a fighter type in Snatch'. I don't think Pitt would not make a convincing boxer. He's too pretty. Boxing needs someone to play that's a bit rough around the edges, I feel. Apart from the dodgy accent from Marky Mark, his work in the role I thought was quite good. And Christian Bale did really well, not a fan of his but this role seemed to work for him.

I would give this film 7/10 - the credit run saw a short video of the real brothers and how close they are. Which I thought was quite sweet.

Then: Westfield, o2, Clapham

Brad Pitt? Have you seen The Devil's Own? His Irish accent is atrocious.
Having said that just because Micky Ward was known as 'Irish' Micky Ward doesn't mean he should have an Irish accent. The real Micky Ward doesn't. He does have a Boston accent which has a trace of Irish in it due to the large number of Irish immigrants who settled in that area. Mark Wahlberg's accent is perfectly fine in this. It should be, he was born in Boston.
