It certainly did. That speech was one of the best bits of the film.
I was a bit worried beforehand that this film would set me off a few times but now I'll never know because it was marred by the two women on the other side of the aisle from me front row who decided to have a major catch-up session. They weren't loud but you can always tell when someone is talking and they were talking, and talking, and talking.... up until a member of staff actually came and leant over and had a quiet word with them telling them to shut up. At which I was so grateful as I was actually starting to feel upset at how disrespectful they were being considering the subject matter. Fair enough if some people didn't like the film but just leave or keep quiet. It's bad enough for people to talk in other films but this is such a quiet film it really stood out. So I don't know if someone complained to the staff or if they noticed themselves from being stood right at the back but I'm so glad they did and it's an idea for me if it ever happens again as it had been a combination of shyness and being far enough away from them that I'd have had to get up and go over to ask.
Overall it's a good film and can see how it's not everyone's taste. I liked the ending, showed there's no magic cure just that life goes on.
7.5/10

Very moving story especially if you have lost someone close to you - goes through the whole process of grief and the point is do you make it through or not? The acting was very good by all of the characters, however I did find Kidman's plumped pout slightly distracting at times.
Pretty heavy going in places and not something you would want to see if you are slightly depressed (which luckily I am not).
Overall 6/10

The Academy Awards commitee obviously disagree as they consider her performance worthy of an
oscar nomination!
I found this film slow and hard going, and felt it didn't really flow as a feature film. I understand this was about grief and overcoming loss, but at the end of the day, this is a movie not a documentary, and I felt it needed a stronger overall story arc.
Just my two cents.

Thought the film was very good but intense seeing how everyone copes with loss in such different ways, my friend was in floods of tears. I must admit Nicole's lips and her pillow face were a bit distracting as I was working out what she has had done at times instead of watching the film. 7/10

It didn't do it for me. The acting was good and the storyline - if you've been there yourself - is poignant but it just didn't do it for me. Maybe I missed something.

I liked this a lot. I was impressed by the way various aspects of the storyline were slowly revealed until you had a full picture of what had gone on. Kidman and Eckhart gave superbly measured performances - you really felt their grief, anger and helplessness. Miles Teller was great as Jason. The tension and bonds between the various family members and other cast members was portrayed in a serious and sensitive way. I thought that the ending was very appropriate and just reinforced that the heartache from the loss of a child was something that people never really get over, but just remains with them to be uncovered in all its rawness from time to time.
8.5 out of 10.

Saw this yesterday at Cameo in Edinburgh. About 50% full.
I did enjoy the film and it was very well acted and the charachters well portrayed. It's not a cheery topic and the mood and music go hand in hand with that.
I did enjoy it and my recollections of it are more like my memories of reading a book than having watched a film.
Was annoyed by two foreign ladies (Dutch?) who talked loudly and had brought their packed lunch with them!
