2010 marks the 120th anniversary of 'the Queen of Crime', Agatha Christie, and to celebrate this great author Southbank Centre is hosting its regular ballroom dancing event in her honour.

Dress to kill, dance to a live band playing hits from the 1930s and 1940s and be prepared for murder on the dance floor! Let's hope Miss Marple and Poirot are on hand to offer their assistance.

Firework Display for New Year's Eve in London

The big event for New Year's Eve 2010 is the free fireworks display at the London Eye on the South Bank. The display will start after Big Ben chimes midnight and will last for 10 minutes. Its popularity means it gets very crowded and it will not be possible to enter the viewing area once capacity has been reached. (Check the detailed map of the viewing area
http://www.london.gov.uk/get-involved/f ... ewyearseve and then click Viewing the Fireworks) The best spots to watch the fireworks are from Westminster Bridge and the north embankment of the River Thames, opposite the London Eye, but they will be visible from across central London, as well as being broadcast live on BBC1. (Full details are now confirmed on the official site)

The display for the first time this year includes a specially created musical soundtrack.

For people heading home, it may be useful to know that travel is free across all TfL services between 23:45 GMT on December 31st 2010 ad 04:30 on January 1st 2011.

New Year's Day Parade 2011 - 25th Anniversary Year
http://www.visitlondon.com/events/detail/10673593

London's annual New Year's Day Parade crowns the capital's festive season – make sure you're there to see it!

This year marks the New Year's Day Parade's 25th anniversary and there will be a silver theme throughout.

25 Years of The New Year's Day Parade in London

The New Year's Day Parade in London features more than 10,000 performers representing 20 London boroughs and countries from across the globe.

Dancers, acrobats, cheerleaders, musicians and performers assemble in the heart of the city for a "celebration of nations".

Young people from the US, Japan and Europe come together with those from London for three hours of pomp and frivolity.
London's New Year's Day Parade Route

This year's parade route starts at The Ritz hotel and ends in Parliament Square.

The parade starts at 12 noon and proceeds along Piccadilly to Piccadilly Circus, then takes in Lower Regent Street, Waterloo Place, Pall Mall, Cockspur Street, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and ends at Parliament Square in front of Big Ben.

More than half a million people are expected to cram into London's most famous streets to see the parade weave its way along the 2.2-mile (3.5km) route.

http://www.walklondon.org.uk/our_events_forthcoming.asp

Choose where you wish to walk and then turn up o/
All the walks are free to join and are led by trained walk guides. There's no need to book in advance just turn up on the day.

I think I'm aiming for the London's hidden alleyways and courtyards one as I love to find parts of London hidden away.

Well, these aren't free but at £8 for adults and £6 for super adults (their word for OAP's, I love it), these walks are very affordable, they are all year round and they are truly excellent: www.walks.com
