The King’s Speech

Very good film... Not one for English films but very well done some bits funny! 7/10
Re: The King’s Speech
Good, solid fare. Colin Firth deserves every credit and ought to walk away with the Oscar and BAFTA. Rush ought to get something. BUT....
I think the film is too limited in scope to merit Best Film. At the end of the day, it's about a guy who overcomes a speech impediment.

Re: The King’s Speech
And Forrest Gump was about a simpleton who ran a lot and compared life to a box of chocolates.
Let's not forget that the guy with the speech impediment was a King of England, and his speeches an historic source of comfort for many during the war.

Re: The King’s Speech
Just enjoyed reading two very contrasting, but interesting reviews - AYBG's and cheekyweelassie's.
Seems like O2 Cineworld is constantly having technical difficulties. I would write in and complain - you may get some free cinema tickets!cheekyweelassie wrote:I saw this in the Sky Screen at the o2 Cineworld in Greenwich. The screen was massive and I was excited. Unfortunately they had 'technical difficulties' and the film started 40 minutes late. Then when it did start the sound was awful - a constant tinny echo. And that lasted for the whole film.
That spoilt my enjoyment of the cinema experience, but didn't interfere with me loving the film.
And also he was thrust into being King, when all he wanted was a normal family life.Beate wrote: Let's not forget that the guy with the speech impediment was a King of England, and his speeches an historic source of comfort for many during the war.

Re: The King’s Speech
On your first point, I don't think Forrest Gump was particularly good anyway (even though that did win Best Film)
I just think there needed to be a little more story here. It's cute and uplifting but it's a bit superficial thinking that a well-delivered radio-address was the tonic to guide the country through WWII. The Social Network anyone?

Re: The King’s Speech
I saw this last night and loved it. All main actors in it played their parts wonderfully. I did wonder why it was a 12A but now I have seen it I understand. Those of you who have also seen it will know why. I am assuming that part of the film was properly researched!!

It's actually rated R in the US. How totally ridiculous.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Re: The King’s Speech
Yes the R rating in the USA is ridiculous. It's quite all right for all age groups to see lots of violence, shootings
etc but bad language is a real no-no. I say this as an American who cannot believe the double standard.
