I'd read somewhere that the sound man put microphones in their clothing so that when they hugged you could hear their heartbeats.
Yeah, I could hear that with his daughter, but what a strange experiment. I thought it really breaks the suspension of disbelief. Good idea, but bad execution.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Yes there was something odd with the black lines at the side of the screen - if it was a deliberate effect, then it distracted and confused me, and if it wasn't, then it's not too clever either.

I thought this film had amazing sound as well (an odd thing to remark about a film, but it really struck me). It also had some amazing scenes in it, particularly the police chase, and there was great acting too. But overall it felt overlong, and I thought the scene in the bar didn't really add anything. Wonderfully melancholic yet exciting and moving film. Javier Bardem can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned and he certainly deserved the award he got at Cannes for this film.

Just found out that the aspect ratios were definitely different. 2.35:1 at the beginning and end. The rest of the time 1.85:1
It seemed to change back at such a random moment as well. Very odd. Here's the imdb page with the details http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1164999/technical

I agree about the sound, however I loved the film.
The acting was superb and it was incredibly real and sad.

My second movie of the day and wow... 9/10! Ditto what's already been said, great film, although I do feel like I need a stiff drink now. Thanx again Preston!
