Well I finally found some time to go see Toy Story 3. I chose the non 3d (as usual), I know its late and everyone has seen it and probably wont bother with my thoughts on it, but here it is anyway, to get it off my chest
Best film of the year. Best film of the decade. oh wait thats the same thing because we're only 8 months into the new one. Well, its a masterpiece. And unbelievably, gobsmackingly as good if not better than the first one. Perfect blend of humour, thrills, pacing, emotion, character, and brilliant epic story telling. The character animation was absolutely stunning. I'm not talking about effects, depth, landscape, background, great as they are, I'm talking about the facial expressions on the toys, the nuances and emotion on these toys (and humans). Brilliant. And boy oh boy does Tom Hanks still reign as king of animation voice acting. Tim Allen is close second and the rest of the voice cast were perfect. Buzz was again absolutley laugh out loud hilarious as he has been in previous films.
Did I weep, yeah a bit. Nothing more to say on that otherwise I'll be giving the ending away...
Any flaws...well just one, very minor, ****** MINOR SPOILER ****** I just dont get why Ken is suddenly made out to be a queen gay during the end credit sequence. He was attracted to Barbie, not frigin Woody. Yes there is a feminism clothes loving attitude but he invited Barbie, into his precious home...so whats the deal here, what am I missing? If its meant to be a funny twist, it doesnt fit. ********* END MINOR SPOILER **********
And even though this film has been out for a week, the whole audience applauded at the end. I know some of you have posted bewilderment as to why we applaud a film in a cinema when its quite clear the makers cannot hear us, but its something about being a part of an audience that is clearly enjoying the hell out of a radically kickass entertaining film so much, that there is a spontaneous psychical urge to just find an emergency outlet to show our appreciation together, as an audience, by applauding. Its as though the film binds us together to share that joyous vibe together. Feels good to so it so dont knock us!
Anyway, just wanted to give me thoughts, albeit quite late. Forget Inception, this is the film I'll be watching many times as I have done with other Pixar movies.
