Re: No Strings Attached
I really enjoyed this, its a while since I've seen a Romcom, a genre that I'm not generally a fan of. The stars were easy on the eye, had good chemistry and there were plenty of laughs (especially at the man snoring in the quiet bits) I think I liked it most, because although it was pretty predictable, it made a change that it was the man who wanted more, rather than the girl. 9/10 I'm feeling generous because there were random bags of popcorn on some of the seats

Re: No Strings Attached
Just came back from this film and we both enjoyed it, Ashton is easy on the eye and I thought it was a good film, the popcorn was a bonus we were not expecting. I would give it 9/10 (1 for the popcorn!)

Re: No Strings Attached
just in from seeing this too, really enjoyed it! i like crude humour too so extra points from me on that. thought it was quite long for a rom com, but it all came together quite well. one guy in the cinema reaaallly liked it, he laughed very loudly throughout, which made me laugh more!
i don't usually like ashton but he won me over tonight
i won't be swayed by the free popcorn though as it was salted!
edit: i forgot to rate it! for a rom com i give it 8/10

Re: No Strings Attached
Lovely to see so many FMUKkers at Covent Garden but we had some awfully restless people in the row in front - there was a bloke to my left who just couldn't sit still and swivvelled his head around on a permanent basis. And can someone enlighten me why everyone laughed at the end during a really romantic bit? I believe someone in the audience made a noise but I am not quite sure what kind of noise, LOL - was he snoring?
I believe the word I am looking for to sum this film up is "meh". Terribly cliched, not original, not overly funny, not overly romantic - simply meh. And Kevin Kline was terrible. "I am happy to be your pappy"? And why do they always have a string of boring flatmates, friends and colleagues who bring absolutely nothing to the story? After Never Let Me Go yesterday this was such a let-down.
OH told me he found it brilliant though, so at least one of us was happy. He has a rather strange affinity for rom-coms, even the terrible ones.
Unfortunately, my score counts: 5.5/10

Re: No Strings Attached
Really enjoyed this film. Was the perfect mix of romance and comedy - with great humour all the way through. The period mix CD was my favourite part.
Definitely worth a watch, 9/10.
But I do realise that I walked out before the extra bits came on - can anyone tell me what happened?

Re: No Strings Attached
I was bored. Some people found the whole thing very funny but I think I may have forced one slight laugh and found the whole thing lamentable.
I was looking forward to some light relief after a doubleheader with Oranges and Sunshine and Never Let Me Go yesterday but the only relief was when it was over.
FMUK had most of the back row and it was nice to see so many out -- shame about the film though I am glad to see some people really enjoyed it.

I have just watched 3 brilliant films over the weekend hence maybe my expectations were too high.

Re: No Strings Attached
I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. That said, it could have been a lot better with a stronger support cast. I quite liked Lake Bell in her role (which expanded suddenly in the last quarter of the film) but disliked just about everyone else, especially Jake Johnson who has no sense of delivery and is the epitome of wodden acting. I also thought Kevin Kline was miscast. I didn't feel he worked well in that role and I didn't b*y his character. The leads made this. Natalie Portman was really great and Ashton Kutcher does what he does best. It's probably the only character type he can pull off, but it works well here. While too many jokes were hit or miss (again, this defintely would have been improved by a stronger supporting cast) some of it defintely made me laugh loudy. The scene at dinner with his father and "You look like a pumpkin, bitch!" were so random and out of nowhere- I love that kind of stuff.
Definitely enjoyable overall, if flawed and I'm glad I struggled through my fatigue and possible budding sickness to catch it. 7.5/10

102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I think I found the look on ejwrank's face more funny than the movie. She was just utterly disgusted! LOLejwrank wrote:I was bored. Some people found the whole thing very funny but I think I may have forced one slight laugh and found the whole thing lamentable.
