I heard Simon Pegg talking about marketing and it seems the film makers or writers sometimes dont even have a say in how its marketed.

If I were making a film I'd insist on being in charge of how its being marketed. If you go for the wrong audience, they won't enjoy it, nor wiill the right audience go and see it, thinking its kids stuff or not thier cup of tea.

These rather middle of the road scores are getting me worried, was hoping for a funny, intelligent, entertaining film, should I fear?

Not if you usually agree with kevinknapman's reviews.

I liked this lots more than I expected to, probably because, as other people have said, it wasn't really a kids movie. It was a good adventure movie (I quite like the odd western) and fully agree with KK's review. Not the sort of thing I would usually go and see but glad I took a chance on this one 8/10 from me (and that's not biased by the lizards, snakes and chameleon in the foyer!)

Truth be told I felt a bit foolish sitting alone (as I couldn't convince anyone else in my family to come along) in the Odeon West End waiting for this film to start. The kids were having a great time with balloon hats and galore (and of course Beate's OH had to have one and his head was even specially measured so it would fit properly -- nothing left to chance), colouring sheets and real snakes and chameleons to pet and hold. I always think that's too stressful for the poor animals but the people in charge did seem to know what they were doing .

But when the film started I thought this really shouldn't be marketed as suitable or interesting for kids and I wonder how much they enjoyed it -- certainly they were well behaved or at least the ones near me were. It was very much a grown-up movie with lots of nods to films past and the language was far too complicated for any 5 or 10 year olds I know. I quite enjoyed it and only wished I knew I could grab a deflated cactus on the way out but I didn't feel like sitting on the bus with a blown up one. Could have handed it over to mandmc10's kids. Sorry!
