Watchable it certainly was, but you just wonder how the scriptwriter jumped from A to B and then C to D...
Terrorist or assassin or regular couple, if you lose your suitcase, I assume you would tell your partner before jumping on a cab without a word...no?

He was in a hurry, but trying to call her from the taxi, got no reception and then the crash happened.

Slightly disappointed when it became apparent that this would be in the tiny screen that True Grit was in, I managed to get a decent seat however.

The film itself (or The Corn Ultimatum as I've started to call it) was a fairly workmanlike but efficient thriller that never really surprised but was watchable enough. This was thanks mainly to a few pleasingly old school action sequences. The hand-to-hand fights were Bourne-like admittedly but exciting and the car chases were fairly satisfying and largely CGI effects-free (apart from the climaxes of both).

Neeson was fine, and January Jones, Diane Kruger and Aidan Quinn were adequate. Bruno Ganz was enjoyably quirky as the ex-Stasi agent, though Frank Langella was disappointingly underused. The scene between the two however was wonderful, the meeting of two veterans of the cold-war giving a bit of depth to an otherwise fairly shallow and functional screenplay.

It was nothing we haven't seen before and felt a little too reminiscent of other 'Americans in jeopardy in a foreign city' films including the Bourne movies (hence the bad pun earlier), Frantic and Neeson's own Taken (though this was better than that frankly repugnant US citizen killing foreigners drivel).
That the macguffin at it's centre turned out to be a strain of pure corn seemed entirely apt.

Yes it certainly was FMUkers galore tonight. Personally I hated the film. I thought the script was terrible and everything was just so ridiculous (certainly the German police would have been on their tale after all those silly car chases, Beate).

So whilst it was nice to see so many friendly faces I didn't think the film was up to much.

Didn't Frank Langella's performance reminded you of a similar role in the Box?

:star: I'm afraid I agree wholeheartedly with Beate on both counts!
It was nice to put some faces to the codenames even if I have already forgotten most of the names (but I hope I will remember at least some of the faces) and by the time I had finished reading the end credits everybody else had gone
and I thouroughly enjoyed the film (including all the German bits; yes, that Currywurst - I felt the same!)
The cinema was a bit weird with the seats not facing forwards but being at a slight angle to the screen and the aisle in middle so that the people who had to wander in and out during the screening were in full view. :star:

Lovely to meet all the FMUKers, what a lovely bunch of people :D I am quite shy to be honest, but promise to say hi next time (hopefully not to a random person as I am really bad with faces, but what's the worst that could happen...)

The movie was quite enjoyable, many plot wholes in my opinion, but it compensated with good acting and versatile locations. One thing I can't get over though - Diane Kruger's accent...

Cant decide between 7.5/10 and 8/10 from me, probably 8.

Twas lovely to meet so many FMUKers tonight! Will certainly say hello at future screenings now I know what you look like :P. I am rather shy and when I saw a large group congregating at the entrance, I couldn't bring myself to say "are you from FMUK?"

I thought this was a fairly good film despite a thin plot. The film could easily have been ridiculous with a less talented lead, but in the capable hands of Liam Neeson, any film will be worth watching. He made me believe that he was a man questioning his identity but firmly holding the belief that he is sane despite his world closing in around him. The car chases and action scenes definitely deserve a o/ from me. The supporting cast did well with the exception of January Jones who looked vacant most of the time.

I was surprised by the revelation at the end but knew there would be a plot twist when Frank Langella sauntered onto the screen looking all devious. A well paced film, a plausible protagonist, sufficient action, and a satisfactory conclusion.

Edit: I have revised my score and decided on a 7/10.

He he - I think the OH might have broken the ice, as he was standing in the middle of the room counting people so denichka finally asked him whether he was counting FMUK people. :giggle:
But to whoever shouted from the back that he should make a speech :nono: - he nearly did it!
