Every so often I have a massive clear out where I don't even look at home recorded tapes and Video. I just sweep them all into bin bags and chuck out. If I got bogged down in looking at them, they would never go. I'm never going to use them again, not that they would be playable in any eventTheyCallMeMrGlass wrote:Trust me, its a very WTF sight to behold, very youtubeable!thedude wrote:Kangaroo dance... that i'd like to see!![]()
There's no embarassment, we all have different tastes. I've been checking out a lot of film scores lately on Spotify... ah, the beauty of internet, not like the old days of tape trading!
Cassette tapes, jesus...I just realise I've got several boxes full of them...WHY? What the hell am I keeping them for?! I remember the days when I would be sitting at my double tape deck recorder listening to the Top 40 charts every Sunday evening, fingers poised over the record button...crazy, it was like a ritual..
And I know I'm old when I cant recognise 9/10 of the acts Weirdfilms listed from todays pop charts

Woah I didn't expect so much feedback! Great to get a discussion going. Right, let's start quoting.
Plus, too many times do I remember watching guys on youtube absolutely smash Through the Fire and Flames on Guitar Hero 3 - madness!
Glad to hear it. I think early Led Zeppelin is a lot better than later efforts, from Led Zep 1 right through to Houses of the Holy. Not that Physical Graffiti isn't good (it's one of my personal faves) but there was just so much more consistency in the early days.thedude wrote:Good stuff Weirdie.. Led Zep 1 is my favourite Zep album. I'm impressed you're checking out old music instead of just following the crap in the charts!
I know! It just strikes me how much classic rock was in the charts in the late 60s and 70s. I'm still a fan of Dream Theater, Elbow, and various other bands influenced from the Golden days of music.aruif wrote:oh and wierdfilms... your assessment of modern music is only what's in the charts, you have to work a bit harder to find something else
My, my, my. I thought you were a nice sweet student! Hm.. I'm not an absolutely huge fan of metal but I have been getting into a Christian group called "Narnia" - a rather strange combination I'm sure you'll see but they actually have some decent songs. Spotify them.rawr_xoxo wrote:Im a bit all over the place but at the moment Im addicted to metal!![]()
I love Bullet for My Valetine, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Metallica, Dragonforce(in particular "Through the fire and the flames")

Glassy! I didn't know you were an 80s King! Next time I see you I'm going to be expecting you in Elton John glasses and original-Sarah-Connor curly hair!TheyCallMeMrGlass wrote:Like Diane, I'm not sure wether I should be thrown out of this thread cos I'm even worse, 80% of my my mp3 playlist are film scores! So I think I best stay away from this thread to avoid embarassing myself further. Though I will add, 80s and early 90s were the greatest pop era for me. From REM to Bon Jovi to downright weird acts such as Falco, had me dancing about in my trademark kangaroo style (ie without grace). There isnt much in the pop/indie/house/garage/metal/punk/whateva world that grabs my attention today anymore apart from the odd few special artists like Gnarles Barkeley, the maturing years of the Queen of Pop (mostly Ray of Light onwards), the late great king of pop, and Eminem. Most of the rest unfortunately is just noise which means I'm getting old...oh no.

Re: The Music Thread
Hate to talk prog again, but I listened to apparently the very first album from the genre today, "In the Court of the Crimson King". Very artistic and weird indeed. I had listened to King Crimson's "Red" beforehand and rather liked it, but I think this is better, a fresher composition.

I too love Madonna, she is brilliant.
Now for the embarrassment; I went to watch the Bay City Rollers (well it turned out to be Les McKeown and 4 other blokes) on Friday night with my friend just going for the fun aspect but OMG it was full of middle aged woman still sporting feather cut hair dos who have followed him for the last 35 years and are really die hard fans. It was like being in the middle of a cult, they had the scarves, jackets and badges and were running down to the stage when he sat down to sing "It's a Teenage Dream" and I thought that the lady next to me was going to faint as she was so overwhelmed as you could go and meet the band after the show and was horrified when we said we were going home without going to meet them as she said last time Les had kissed her on the cheek and we were going to miss this opportunity. I have no desire whatsoever to be kissed on the cheek by Les McKeown or anyone else in the band for that matter.
I apologise unreservedly to anyone on this thread who still has a feather cut hair style or a tartan scarf!!

Re: The Music Thread
Diane65 that is erm interesting
I had no idea there was such a devoted following still. It sounds so surreal, especially the storming the stage bit
.
I live quite near the Shepherds Bush Empire and there's always queues outside. My mate told me the other day there were people outside sitting down with sandwiches, getting ready for a good few hours queuing. And who was playing? Non other than Shaking Stevens
I must have lived a very sheltered life, not realising these sub cultures still exist

Re: The Music Thread
A lot of Yes and Kansas recently. My friend has a ridiculous amount of music which he's always transferring to me through USBs so I can build up my collection at no real expense

I've had both Adele albums on repeat this week, not listening to much else. Just got a freebie copy of the new elbow album so will give that a go tomorrow, also have access to the vaccines album. need to do quite a bit of listening of new stuff but just not in the mood right now
