I went to see Dorian Gray at Sadlers Wells a few weeks ago. It was quite a good update of the original story, plenty of gore, sex, violence.......

I just went to look up the film on imdb just now and in a link someone had advertised a facebook page about it with a comp to winning a pair of tickets to Wednesday's screening (sorry, too late now) and all the Yanks went "oh why is this only in the UK, I want to move there just for this!" Eh? Haven't they got preview screenings in the US?

What a palava!

When we got there at just after 6 there was already a massive queue but OH was quite near the front anyway. Anyway turns out lots of other people had proper card tickets and these people were all being let in while there were about 200 people in a momentum tickets queue and I think none of these peopel got in as it didnt move at all - but think they have been letting them in earlier and then stopped.
Eventually at 6.30 a woman came out and said it was full and pointed out that in the terms and conditions the tickets arent guaranteeed. While she was talking to us a journalist came up and said could he still get in and she told him no so it turns out they must have just been giving out tickets to press/pr people that turned up and then there were no tix left for the momentum tickets - the girl next to us had won from the moviesonline comp rather than momentum and even her tickets werent guaranteed!
Beate got in even though she was queuing behind us as her OH was already in saving seats but my OH did not want to queue jump all the other people waiting to get in so we left as couldnt be bothered to hang about and make a fuss

Happy Birthdya Phunkygal. I was one of the unlucky ones. we queued for half an hour in the rain then got turned away. Thing that really annoyed me was that about 6.10 a man came out and counted everyone, then 20 mins later we were told no seats left. They should have told us then. Never mind that's life I suppose
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

I've heard similar to what phunkygal is saying. A friend of mine had momentum tickets. She was there a little later (around 6.20). The woman at the cinema said they had enough tickets for the allocated screen... approx 500, so after the VIP's etc were let in, they then started exchanging competition/momentum screening tickets for their own printed film tickets. Once those were gone (indicating a full screening) everyone else was turned away. If you one of the lucky few that got their early, you'd probabyl get in.

Really badly organised I thought, and there is a difference between just applying for tickets and being a 'competition winner', so I think it was quite misleading despite there being the disclaimer in the terms and conditions.
I thought it was a bit pants how the staff went to the back of the queue first and started taking down names and email addresses, while those of us at the front who had been waiting since at least 17:30 were oblivious to what was going on.
I didn't see anyone get in apart from all those people with special card tickets who all sailed past the queue. Grrrrrr.
I still have a birthday card for Phunkgal in my bag......oh dear!

Let's just hope that everyone that missed out gets invited to a super special screening!

Happy birthday phunkygal!! Surely if u tell ppl who u r, some ppl of this forum would give up their seats as ur birthday gift.

I turnt up at 1815 and there are about 100 ppl queuing outside. Then a guy and a gal come to tell us you guys are unlikely to get in as there are so many ppl. And also, it was raining. so they advise us to go. i was the only one gone.

I think ppl will understand this kind of event is not entirely free as you may have to queue for 1 hrs to garantee a tix. Of course it would be different if your time cost nothing!!!

My poor sister had tickets but like everyone else was turned away. I originally told her Vue West End (doh!) but she luckily double checked and found her way - she managed to get in the queue for about 6.10 but there was so many people already queuing. I told her to hold fire as I've been to a few of these screenings where there have been long queues and it has worked out (the Time Out comp for Sweeney Todd at Surrey Quays and Iron Man at Vue Greenwich come to mind) but she was also turned away.

Were you all offered complimentary tickets? I wonder if those will come through.

And Happy Birthday Phunkygal! - hope this didn't ruin your day too much. It sounds like it was a real mess.

I too was in the queue and at the end when we were told that it was full the girl said she would send us complimentary tickets by email and took my email address. Did anyone else get told that??

Preferred cinemas:
Central London and North London as far north as the Hampstead Everyman including Picturehouse Hackney/Notting Hill Gate - but not Wood Green and North Finchley as they are just a bit too far.
