Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
The last proper "play" I saw was A Flea in Her Ear at the Old Vic which was quite good! Would like to see more central offerings like they had last year with Onassis and Krapp's Last Tape.

Oh yes I agree but there are less events available than there were over the winter period and I was wondering if that was normal because of the general pick up in ticket sales during the spring, summer and autumn months.ejwrank wrote:I went to a concert at King's Place on Friday and Hamlet Clown Prince at Hackney Empire last night so I think we're doing pretty well in the theatre/concerts offerings at the moment. It seems that we're quite a pampered lot in London especially!

It was really funny in some moments and I left the theatre with my cheeks hurting, lol. Also, I have never been to the Old Vic previous to watching this so it was great to go there and see a play from such a prestigious place and not have to p*y a penny! My friend is a massive theatre buff and he was really happy to be my plus one for the night.
I don't mind going to the concerts either, especially on a weekend. One I had the chance to watch a matinee performance up Central AND a classical concert later on in the same day so I had a real day out. Fingers crossed indeed we get some more and soon!

I really enjoyed it too and had a fun discussion with my friend who thought she saw the two characters that look alike on stage at the same time thus they had to be played by two different actor ;P (she still doesn't know the truth by the way as she's positive she is right and doesn't want to know, ha!)
The new production at the Old Vic "Cause Célèbre" sounds great too, hope some free tickets pop up for them!

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Went to see Sunday morning at the Centre of the World by Louis de Bernières at the Southwark Playhouse. It's been performed once as a radio play and you really couldn't imagine it ever being performed again, if it wasn't for this ingenious production.
If you like your plays unusual, this is definitely it. The play itself is quite bad, as there's no plot to follow, but thankfully it's only 1 hour long. However what's amazing about it is the sensory experience you get. Half the audience is blindfolded and have the experience the play through listening, smelling and touching. The other half can sit at the back and watch the action unfold. I wasn't blindfolded but that was just as interesting (you can definitely experience this play twice).
They use the most low-tech props imaginable, cups of coffee, smell of vinegar, chinese takeaway boxes, hand puppets or even just a board to generate the feeling of wind, but you can't help admire the effort the set designer put into the whole thing. In front of me was a reviewer who had his notepad ready and with a blindfold!
The play itself would get a 2/10, but the whole package is really interesting and gets an enthusiastic 7/10. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something unusual.

If you scroll back to 17 March you can read what some of us felt about the dress rehearsal of that production of "Cause Célèbre".canadian_turtle wrote:

I'd like to see that too actually, know the reviews aren't exactly amazing but it is a free play (if they do bring out tickets for it!).
