Little White Lies
Re: Little White Lies
I liked the film but do agree that it would have been improved had it been a bit shorter -- cut out a few of the greetings and kissing exchanges (do people in France really kiss each other quite this often?). And the trend to using American music in French films seemed odd to us (all English/American music in Love Like Poison too) especially the dreadful "I Did It My Way" at the funeral. That said, I enjoyed the film and thought all the performances were excellent. We thought Max looked like British actor Denis Lawson -- Dustin Hoffman hadn't dawned on us.
I enjoyed this more than my husband who thought the beginning looked promising but was ready for it to end 30 minutes earlier. Still we were both glad to see the free preview as it is the type of film we might have pa*d to see otherwise.

Re: Little White Lies
In Cardiff Cineworld the audience dwindled down to 10 when someone came in and said that the film didn't have subtitles. We thought we would stay and give it a chance and I'm glad I did.
had to get rid of the noisey bunch from behind first though! Literally shouting and giglingling, my poor ability of French was reaaly put to the test. Finally got the nerve to say 'shush I'm trying to listen!', or words to that effect, and they left.
I'm glad I stayed, beautiful cinematography, a story (yes, a bit slow but not all films have to be wham bam) and a brilliant cast, was it not Dustin??? While my French let me down at times for the more subtle lines, the acting brought me along enough to keep up with the plot. I love the area of France they were shown to be on holiday in and it is really that beautiful and sunny.
OH kept muttering 2 1/2 hours!
And for the member that asked - Yes the Fench do kiss that much. Going out to France in a couple of weeks and trying to emember which cheek to start with - can lead to an embaressing head dance otherwise.
7/10

Re: Little White Lies
Was at Glasgow Renfrew Street last night the film got off to a late start which was a little irritating, also the screening wasnt even half full for those who had tickets and decided not to go shame you missed out..... I agree with most of what has been said already sweet, moving, charming, funny and often tugged on the old heart-strings too only downside for me was the drawn out over sentimental speach's at the end made the last 10 mins or drag a bit i was half expecting someone to shout out You diddnt care that much you still had yer holiday LOL but thats just me
All in all a lovely wee film 8/10 from me
7/10 from my OH
p.s Yinster i was looking for you hope to see you at the nxt screening

Re: Little White Lies
1st post at last.... I too was miffed at the late Glasgow start, but the film was lovely and the sand bit at the end nearly had me blubbing. A pleasure to watch something a bit different, especially as I had been on holiday in the area last year.
Re: Little White Lies
I really liked this, very funny and moving, wasn't bothered about it being 2 and 1/2 hours long, just some scenes seemed to go on a bit. I liked all the cast, and specially Max, he was hilarious (the guy is definitely a Dustin Hoffman lookalike!). Didn't like the soundtrack, some good songs (that football / Moonage Daydream montage had me in fits!), some horrible too, but there was just too much of it, this is where they could have cut it down by 10 minutes. And that sandy beach.... after Rio and this, I can't wait to go on holiday! Anyway, well worth seeing... 8/10.

Re: Little White Lies
Overall I thought it was a very good film, lots of subtle humour (which worked well despite the subtitles), just disappointed with the predictable and OTT ending..............and the awful version of My Way to accompany it!..........7/10 from Tricky!

Also at the Glasgow show, liked the film but did feel it was way too long, not normally a fan of foreign language films, almost didn't go, but glad I did
Re: Little White Lies
I hated it...but I think the experience (at West India Quay) was worsened significantly by the two females sitting directly behind me who giggled at every single line of dialogue. Yes, every line! They even broke out into full blown laughter during the more poignant bits towards the end. This only confirmed that these two wenches wouldn't have been able to identify the difference between comedy and tragedy if a bus had hit 'em....in fact, under these circumstances I wouldn't have either.

Re: Little White Lies
We went to see this film at the Nottingham Cineworld. The cinema was only about 30% full at the start but dwindled to 8/10 people when it became obvious that there were no subtitles. The staff were apologetic, but said there was nothing they could do as this was how the film was sent to them.
We do have a smattering of French but it was too difficult to follow so we too eventually left, which is a shame because it looked a good film.
