Re: 500 Days of Summer
Hello all - been watching from a distance for a while but you all seem quite un-scary so thought I would pipe up and start talking.
Saw this earlier this week and was quite looking forward to it from the reviews.
I really enjoyed it - thought it was a sweet, interesting way of telling a well worn story - Joseph Gordon-Levitt was as good as always and Zooey Deschanel's 'Summer' came across as a well rounded and realistic character.
It made me laugh and also touched memories about break-ups that I now know are a very universal feeling. I would certainly recommend it - and indeed, have done.
8/10 from me

Re: 500 Days of Summer
Saw this earlier in the week. Didn't hold out much hope for it, but was plesantly surprised. Rom-Com is not really my bag, but I was entertained, understood the relationships between the characters, and it was refreshing to see a film like this that didn't end with the usually obvious happy ending - don't want to spoil it for any non-previewers!!
JGL was good in the lead role, haven't thought much of his stuff since Third Rock - hopefully this film will be the turning point and he'll start getting better roles in decent movies!
p.s. First post, Hi fmuk!!

I enjoyed it and could relate to an old girlfriend, my wife wanted to fall asleep, and thought it was too slow and not very wellexecuted!strike_uk wrote:It was a nice twist on the romantic comedy. I really enjoyed it even though the girl sitting next to us was constantly calling Zooey Deschanel's character a bitch.

Brick had a great soundtrack, but a pretty poor film, The Lookout started great, but the second half of it was pretty dull and finished with a whimper.AYBG wrote:Woah woah woah woah! Have to say I was disappointed with this film, it was too slow and I was quite please when it finished, but felt that I had wasted my evening.

Re: 500 Days of Summer
I saw this on a free screening a week ago and thought it was an excellently scripted and acted film. JGL and ZD were both excellent I thought in the lead roles and the supporting cast all played their part without pulling attention away from the story.
Excellent soundtrack and, as others have said on this forum, the story is something that most people can relate to and the fact that it's not a "rom com" alike means that the story progresses as you would expect in real life not as it would it a McConoughy/Hudson vehicle (I really dislike the tags that are getting associated with this movie, it's not a rom com and it's not an indie, just accept it for what it is!)
For me this has been the best film I've seen yet in the cinema this year (although I have yet to see Hurt Locker or District 9): 8/10.
