Just got back from Swan Lake and I'm kind of upset. The intermission was at 10pm, yes, 10pm! That meant the show itself was likely to finish at 11.30 but more likely midnight. So I had no choice but to leave during the interval to make sure I could get a train home in time as I didn't want to walk out during the second act.

I don't know why this didn't start earlier! There was a brief intro from the choreographer and someone from Sky and then the show started at 8.15pm.

My advice is never to go to a theatre performance when it is being recorded for TV. They kept stopping and starting the show and even repeating some of the sequences. The audience were getting frustrated. Out of nowhere the music would cut out and even the dancers were surprised and then didn’t know which position to be in when the filming resumed. As a result things inevitably overran which is why the interval was at 10pm (the time a theatre show normally finishes).

As soon as the curtain came down, there was a mass walkout and I think lots of people left. I felt really bad as I would have loved to stay for the second part but had to make sure I got home.

The first act was very good. The choreography was brilliant as I expected it to be. The swan sequences were amazing and literally captivating. Those poor dancers having to repeat those energetic sequences! I could see the sweat pouring off their backs. This also had humour (loved the dog!) and I liked the tongue in cheek reference to a mobile phone interrupting a performance.

Thanks to the lovely ejwrank for collecting my tickets as I was in the stalls with an excellent view of the stage despite huge camera equipment. For some reason an entire side of the stalls was left empty which seemed like a waste of seats. It was on the same side as the huge crane which would probably have obscured vision, but surely restricted view is better than not getting tickets at all!

I’m glad I went but wish the production team had organised/rehearsed this better so it started earlier and wasn’t interrupted so much.

Sorry to hear that funthing29!! but glad I didn't go *phew*
Yes I always try to avoid TV filmed shows, they take forever and it's just not worth it if I can see it from the comfort of the living room. It was the same when I watched the filming of Penn and Teller, they finished around midnight (and that was on a day with the most snow)

Seeing that I just woke from having fallen asleep in front of the telly I am doubly glad I did not go.

I was surprised it didn't start earlier and thought it might run quite late as 3D cameras can only shoot in quite short bursts. So it's not surprising they had to keep stopping and starting. I got tickets for my parents but they changed their mind about going which is probably just as well.

That's the thing with ballet - not only is it extremely dull, but it's extremely dull and long.

You're already seeing the "entertaining" populist Matthew Bourne version lol

I went to the Swan Lake production and despite the stops and starts I really enjoyed it! I did not find it a distraction to the ballet as I got quickly engrossed back into the story...managed to stay till the end which meant I got home really late...would have been nicer if it started earlier to finish earlier but hey it was a free Matthew Bourne!

I have seen a couple other Matthew Bourne ballets in the past so maybe I am biased as I love his work! (was nice to see him in person also)

We had excellent seats in the stalls and thought the first time the dances were shot were great. However, got bored when they were reshot... so it got rather tiring.

I kept thinking 'I wonder what sweat looks like in 3D... yuck'.

Left at the interval and thought thank God we only live 10 minutes away.

I don't know why they didn't start it at 6.30pm instead of 8pm.

I left after the first act as well... not that I had to catch a train (I live 10 minutes away), but I had a very long/hard day at work and I struggled keeping my eyes wide open :(
Such a shame as I really enjoyed this first part o/

I did not mind the music stopping and I found very interesting to see for once what happened behind the curtain (there was no drop curtain!).
The most annoying for me was the pretty random re-takes... once they had to retake because we (the audience) applauded when we were not supposed to  , but again that was part of the deal; we knew what we had signed for!

And I finally had the chance to meet my first FMUKers! Nice to briefly meet you Valda, Sunny Saver and Cliveas :)
